I'm looking for a housesitter for a home in Northern New Mexico, from Nov 17, 2013, until Dec 15, 2013. So, yes, this includes Thanksgiving.

I'm looking for a housesitter for my 115-yr-old old adobe home in rural Dixon, New Mexico - 30 minutes from Taos, 1 hour from Santa Fe, 2 hours from Albuquerque. The place is simple and a little quirky but comfortable and unique. It has 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, a living space and a kitchen. There is reliable DSL internet, but there is no laundry, no dishwasher, no microwave and no television. Heat is by wood stove, and the toilet is a composting toilet (it's inside the house, in the bathroom, there's just nothing to flush). It's in a tiny neighborhood at the end of a road, and from the house you can hike pretty much forever in the hills and into a river canyon. The town of Dixon (a 5 minute drive) has a food co-op, library, and 1 good local restaurant.

The main responsibility will be keeping the house warm enough so the pipes don't freeze, and making sure the light stays on in the well house, so the well pump doesn't freeze.

This area is super beautiful. It's great for peace and quiet or for getting some creative work done. From the house, you can hike directly into the hills, and there are numerous other hiking possibilities nearby. The house itself is very cozy. It's great for single people, couples, or small families.

Please note that this time period includes Thanksgiving! Also, a vehicle is required. Please realize that this place and its little neighborhood is authentic northern New Mexico - it's not something out of a romantic Santa Fe fantasy - it's better. It is completely safe, but it looks a little rough around the edges. The house is not luxurious, but it is comfortable.

If you're prepared to deal with a few surprises, all the better - perhaps you'll have to trap a few mice (they tend to come in when it's cold); perhaps there will be some issue with the well ./ water system that might require some minor tending to (it's rare, but it could happen). At this time of year, nights will be cold, so experience with a wood stove is a plus. And it could be sunny one day and snow 8 inches the next. (Usually the weather is nice, but you never know - we are at 6300 ft above sea level). Also, at this point, my departure date is firm, my return date is a bit tentative - I might be returning ten days earlier than i've listed. I should know for sure soon, but if you can be flexible at this point, that'd be helpful! It's okay with me if you bring a well-behaved dog.

Thanks so much. Looking forward to hearing from you!
