Are you a caring, country wise couple available for a three to four month winter house sit in northern California? We have a need for a couple interested in a long term house sit between mid January through April or February through May. We have some flexibility in our schedule and if you do, too, that is another plus. We like to return home for a couple of short visits during the winter period enabling you to do sight seeing of your own in the area. This type of flexibility is not mandatory, but if it appeals to you please let us know and we can plan accordingly.

We also have some flexibility with the start and end dates in the winter so if this is close to what you are interested in we would love to hear from you.

We are in a wonderful "banana belt" region of the Sierra Foothills, situated 1/2 hour from Grass Valley, 2 hours from Lake Tahoe, about one and a half hours from Sacramento and 3 hours from San Francisco. We overlook a large 800 acre lake fed by the South Fork of the Yuba River and we can promise you beautiful views and gentle lake breezes. We have a swimming pool but there is enough rain in the winter to make that more scenic than usable. A winter housesit is inviting for people who like to hike the trails on the ranch or visit nearby lakes, rivers and Gold Country towns and museums. Our up to date, easy to care for home is on a 200 acre property of rolling hills, oaks and pines. The charming little Gold Country towns of Nevada City is 1/2 hour away and Auburn and Placerville are another 1/2 hour to an hour beyond that. It's a great winter stay---very little maintenance of the yard at that time, but in the spring we need someone interested and able to work in the yard. Most of our acreage is open country so there is only minimal yard work around the house but in the spring we need mowing with a weed eater the tall grass around the house and barn. All the garden is on a sprinkler system and we have a monthly garden check up by a local maintenance company.

We have had great experiences with house sitters in the past, each a little different. One couple liked to travel in their own motorhome which they parked up at the barn, settled into their own space and just checked on our house during the day. In that case we paid them a small salary for the caretaking and an hourly wage for the heavier work they wished to do.

Other couples have stayed in our home and shared the cost of utilities during their stay. In this instance no salary is offered but a beautiful, very comfortable home is the reward. We are looking for a responsible, reliable, very caring married couple to take this position, especially a couple who loves country living. You are 20 minutes from the closest shopping center and at the end of a two mile dirt and gravel road. You don't see neighbors but a big plus of our country life is that we do have wonderful neighbors who are there if you need them. We are looking for someone with excellent references, recent house sit experience, who is comfortable with posting a security deposit (bond) which is refundable (minus their share of the utilities for the period of their stay). We have internet access which has just been upgraded. You will need your own transportation. We have a very large barn on the property but because we travel a lot since retirement we do not keep horses now. We do have several cats And five dearly loved pet chickens. Keep them healthy and happy for us and you get the eggs! We have a dog but he goes everywhere with us so, in most instances, he isn't part of the package.
