We are looking for a house sitter for the end of November '13 to late January '14 for approximately 7-8 weeks. Exact dates cannot be confirmed yet due to flights availability.
We are on a 5.5acre property in the northern beaches area of Townsville. There are supermarkets close by and shopping centres are within an easy drive.
Our house is an older style block house, fully airconditioned; it's a family home so please do not expect something out of a Home Beautiful magazine. We have a carport attached to the shed that is set up to store your caravan (if you travel with one) or boat, plus your car. We have some boat ramps within easy drive if you like to get out in the creeks or ocean.
You would need to be responsible for the care and well-being of 3 overly indulged medium-large dogs who are used to being in the house with the family but also are happy lazing around outside with their people. They are not well socialised with other dogs, so unfortunately people who would love to bring their own pets would not be ideal. They do not require walking and are not overly comfortable being on a lead. One of the dogs does require medication (tablets) twice a week so you would need to be able to administer that. We also have chickens and ducks in a separate pen who will need minimal attention - in return they will provide you with yummy eggs and lots of laughs with their antics. There is also an attached vegetable garden.
Obviously, this will be during Nth Qld's wet season so you must be prepared to deal with the possibilities of heavy, prolonged periods of rain (if we have a good season) plus the risk of cyclones. Small chance but possible. In the event of a possible cyclone we would expect that you would prepare the property accordingly. We have a large ride-on mower for the paddocks that gets the mowing done in a couple of hours. So no long days in the hot sun for the lucky one to do it.
We are close to a river if you like to walk or try your hand at some fishing, plus we have a little seasonal creek in our back paddock that you can cool off in.
We have great neighbours, too.
