We are a professional couple (mid-30s) living in Rotorua, Bay of Plenty with, what we think, is the cutest little dog in the world – our dear miniature Dachshund “Colin Archibald” (6 years old). We are travelling to England for 7 weeks leaving October 1st to visit Dave’s mum.
Dave is originally from the UK (now a New Zealand resident) and Sarah is from Gisborne. Dave only gets to visit his mum once every couple of years or so, so these visits are especially important as, not that she’d like to hear it, his mum is no “spring chicken” anymore!
We are looking for someone to house sit for us whilst we are away and more importantly, look after little Colin. To call him a “low maintenance” dog is an understatement. His idea of heaven is quite simple – being curled up on the couch of an evening (preferably on a nice warm pair of human legs!) sleeping peacefully, whilst those around him watch TV or do other similar pursuits.
During the day he generally portions out his time between napping, playing with his various soft toys and using his ridiculously cute face to get as many cuddles and pats as he can! Other than that, he doesn't ask much from life. He doesn't eat a huge amount, doesn't bark a great deal (although he does tend to warn us with the odd bark when he hears visitors arriving) and is incredibly good natured, if rather shy, until he gets to know you.
Our house (owned) is situated close to Rotorua city centre (approx. a 15 minute drive) and we are a 3 minute drive from Ngongotaha village where you can find most of the basic amenities you'd need. Rotorua itself offers a huge amount of attractions and activities, not least the numerous geo-thermal parks and hot/mud pools! Other than that, it boasts the Redwood Forest, Kuirau Park, Government Gardens, Lakes, Mountain Bike trails, forest walks and local markets.
Our house (with lake views) is also situated just a 2 minute walk from prime Trout fishing spots by the Waititi stream and Lake Rotorua access too.
The house is a two storey Lockwood (just the lounge is situated on an upper level), with three bedrooms and a bathroom. It has outside decks both downstairs and upstairs (mostly covered from the elements) - the latter has lovely lake views. There is also a large covered BBQ area with table and chairs, as well as a spacious garden.
The neighbours are very pleasant, and we have secured the property for the most part so that Colin is safe from any traffic that may enter the property. Having said that, he’s not a particularly brave little chap and generally doesn't wander far on his own.
We can easily organise a list tourist attractions, as well as a list of local dog friendly walking areas (including the Redwoods) nearby, and are more than happy to provide photos of our house, the surrounding area, and Colin.
