We are an active, nonsmoking, retired, college-educated professional couple, married for over 45 years who raised 4 children and hosted 4 foreign exchange students in our home of 40 years. I retired as a Navy Reservist after twenty years at the end of 2009 just before my sixty-seventh birthday. (Didn't join until just before my 47th birthday when I answered a call for nurses during a critical shortage for the military)
I was first a Community Health Nurse before going back to school to become a Nurse Practitioner. My civilian experience was working for the County Health Department for over 32 years before retiring in I was out on an aircraft carrier the Carl Vinson heading for the Gulf when 9/11 hit so extended my reserve duty aboard the ship until the end of October when I returned home. Went to work for Planned Parenthood and finally retired from both the Navy and Planned Parenthood at the end of My husband was a statistician for Blue Cross until he went back to his first love of new home construction and remodling.
We have two acres that include field, woods, a seasonal creek and garden area. We currently have three laying hens that have become our pets and one feral cat that has adopted us this past summer. In the past we have raised and milked goats, raised several beef calves for food, and had horses among other animals. We have always had dogs and cats during our married life of over forty five years but have not replaced the last dog, Maggie, who died of cancer a year ago.
We had a large ten x forty foot, above the ground pool, when our children were growing up, so we have pool maintenace experience. We have a hot tub that we maintain and use daily for the last twenty years.
We enjoy reading, hiking, swimming, snow shoeing, riding our ATV in the snow up at our cabin, horse back riding in the past and camping. My husband enjoys restoring stringed instruments, playing the guitar and restoring a 67 Volkswagen among other hobbies.
