Experience genuine American mid-western rural
life. This house-sit requires a strong,
self-reliant individual or couple, competant with
horses and able to cope in a rural setting. A
small farmstead with six horses, some
elderly and with special needs, two dogs, four
outdoor barn cats, a turtle and one house cat
needs taking care of. For warm-weather sits,
lawn-mowing will be needed as well as gardening.
Winter sits will be challenging with extremely
cold temperatures likely. In all seasons, daily
turn-out is needed for four of the horses,
and feeding of hay, grain and water twice per day.
Conditions are rustic and not luxurious, as a
renovation on the century-old farm-house is slowly
in progress. Wi-fi and local satellite TV are
available. The house is heated by propane
forced-air and by an additional wood-stove in the
living room for cozy evenings reading, watching
TV, playing piano or at the computer.
Two fully furnished art studios are
in the barn, there's a hay field and two hardwood
groves to walk, 4-wheel or ski in, on 20 acres.
This little bit of "Lake Wobegone" country is
located 6 miles outside a town of under 4,000
inhabitants, where there is a food market, golf
course, movie theatre, three bars and thirteen
churches of various stripes. Twenty-eight miles
away is an Indian gambling casino with a good
buffet and nationally-known country music and pop
performers. There is also Lake Mille Lacs at that
distance, where one can ice-fish in winter and, in
warmer weather, hire boats and guides for fishing.
This farm is a couple of miles from a state
Wildlife Managagement Area, convenient for hunting
in season. There is also a lovely river within 2
miles that affords great canoeing. Our home is
about 70 miles north of St Paul and Minneapolis,
and about 30 miles east of St Cloud. We would
even enjoy forming a permanent relationship with a
sitter for frequent sits, since we are artists who
travel often for long periods in our work, and
have lots of room. |
