We are looking for an animal loving person to care for our 17 month oldBelgianShepherd/ Labrador, Dougal and his feline friend Thomas. We have had many house-sitters in the past and the "boys" are very laid back about sharing their home with strangers.
They are fed twice a day but Thomas is diabetic and needs an insulin injection twice a day. I give him this at meal times and he makes no fuss at all...doesn't seem to even notice!
Dougal likes a walk twice a day but at no specific time. He has full run of the courtyard, balcony and garden although his home and bed is in the house.
We live in a stone three bedroomed house in a quiet rural village in Galicia which, although a work in progress, is a "lived in" comfortable home. It sits within a walled courtyard and has a small vegetable and flower garden behind. There is a balcony along the front of the house with lovely views.
Inside, the house is centrally heated by a pellet burning stove in the sitting room. There's a well equipped kitchen, and a modern shower room. A lot of the year we tend to eat and socialise on the balcony which also has an enclosed sitting room at one end.
We have English and Spanish T.V. and Fibre Optic Internet.
All living accommodation is on the first floor accessed by wide stone steps
There are no amenities in our village, apart from a panaderia van Monday to Saturday, just lovely neighbours. The nearest village with shops, banks, bars etc is Sober, 3km away and the town of Monforte de Lemos is 11km distant. The larger town of Ourense is half an hour by car.
Galicia is a little known area of north west Spain and has some stunning scenery, from the Cañons de Sil to the mountains of O Courel, the vineyards of the Ribeira Sacra (Sacred Riverside) to the many monasteries along the way. There is very little in the way of public transport in the area and a car would be essential in order to explore your surroundings.
If you have no transport, but have an appropriate licence we would be open to leaving our car for you to use on condition that you are willing to drop us and pick us up again from Santiago de Compostela Airport.
