This is a rather odd one... And anyone without a sense of adventure will probably want to skip this.
I have an off grid house in the middle of nowhere which is unoccupied pretty much all of the time. It's a lovely house, built in the 1820's and pretty much true to how it originally was. There is no electricity, but there is a well and if the place is occupied, I will try and move a water pump there. There is a water heater but I suspect we are out of propane. The house has 130 acres of forest and some of the best wildlife watching, fishing and kayaking in Nova Scotia. Seasonal Rental for this place would usually be pretty high.
So what's the catch? The place is pretty run down now and needs quite a bit of TLC - I tend to only use the downstairs because bats have pretty much made the upstairs unpleasant. When the house is left unoccupied for long periods, people break in and this year the doors were knocked in and that hasn't helped at all. It needs living in, it needs cleaning up, it needs basic maintenance.
What am I looking for is people who like the idea of living off-grid for a while and who are willing to do some handiwork and cleaning up.
You can drive to it, though you don't want a car that is low to the ground since you are off-road for quite a way. Shelburne is about 30 minutes away by car, and a couple of hours by cycle. There is sporadic cellphone reception there and as I said there is no electricity, though I can leave a generator there if I know someone is going to be there. Don't get me wrong, there's no danger of people breaking in when you are there, it's just a problem when it is unoccupied for a long time.
I am up for people staying there for most of the year, although I am there occasionally myself. Be warned though - Temperatures there get down to about -30 (Fahrenheit and Centigrade) in the winter and once you are snowed in, you are stuck - It's fair to say you probably don't want to be there in winter :)
In response to some replies I had last year - I am trying to be nice here and give some adventurous types some fun - So no, I will not pay people to stay there, in other circumstances a week's holiday rental in a place like this would cost a load of money - And I can provide things like generators or water pumps but I will need a security deposit of some sort - I have had too much stolen from there already.
Anyway, on the off-chance that somebody is interested. Talk to me.
