For 5 weeks | Short Medium Term

Hi. My partner Neal and I are travelling overseas for 5 weeks in April/May and need a caring cat- loving mature person or couple to care for our two beautiful 14yr old male cats, a Burmese and an Australian Mist.

We had organised for relatives to house and cat- sit, but due to illness they are no longer able to come.

One of the 'boys' requires daily medication, orally, for FHV (Feline Herpes Virus). Luckily this cat is very easy to handle and give medication to. Otherwise the cats are generally in good health, but are at the age where things can go wrong, a flare up of arthritis, a dental problem, that sort of thing.

We would prefer the carer/s to be prepared to be around the house as company for the cats, and who will be here in the evenings to feed them and bring them inside before bedtime and give them their night-time pellets.

Previous experience in caring for elderly cats, or with a background in veterinary care would be an advantage. Good references from previous house- sitting assignments is essential.

We really need someone who is observant and genuinely cares for animals and has their best interests at heart, and who can act competently and independently in our absence.

A driver's licence and own car is essential if a situation arises that requires one of the cats to be taken to the vet.

They are beautiful boys and love the company of adults. Our Australian Mist boy is very affectionate and loves his cuddles. Mister Burmese is a bit more aloof, but once he takes to you he will follow you around and want a tummy rub or a comb. They still like to play with string or a ball, or a leaf will do!

They are indoor and outdoor cats, but are mostly in during the day. We let them out early morning, around 5.00 or or they will let you know!. They are usually back in again for their late morning feed around 9.00ish. After that is nap time! But they do like to come in and out during the day.

As we live in an area full of wildlife we keep the cats indoors at night, from around 10.00pm, although this can be flexible depending on the weather. The Australian Mist is still a bit of hunter I'm afraid and is known to bring a mouse, frog or small lizard as a gift.

There is a cat flap from the open plan lounge onto our back deck, which is meshed, and the deck area can also be locked.

We live in Asquith, near Hornsby, on the upper north shore of Sydney, in a quiet leafy location, handy to transport walk to train station) and local shops. Hornsby city centre and amenities are a short drive away. There is a bus stop at the top of our street, which I should mention has a steep incline.

Ku-ring-gai National Park is a short drive away, Bobbin Head is a lovely place for picnics, bush walking and boating, and the area is very popular with road cyclists.

The city centre of Sydney is accessible by train via the beautiful north shore train line, approx a 50 minute journey. The Central Coast is an easy journey by train or car.

We have comfortable accommodation for a couple or single person with 2 spare bedrooms sharing a small modern bathroom. Both bedrooms are nicely decorated with comfortable beds, one a single the other a double, with ample storage.

We have a modern study with 2 desk spaces, wireless internet and printers.

The lounge has a LCD internet-enabled TV. The kitchen is modern and well equipped with gas burners, electric wall oven, microwave and large refrigerator. We have an internal laundry with modern front loader washing machine. The open plan dining and lounge face north with views to the bush. We have abundant bird life in our yard and you can often spot a swamp wallaby in the cleared grassy area behind the houses.

Our garden is relatively low maintenance and we have an ornamental pond with a small collection of frogs. In May there should not be a need for lawnmowing, just a bit of watering, if needed. We have very nice neighbours to call on if necessary.

A prior visit to meet the cats and discuss arrangements is essential. Please call or text me for more information.

We look forward to hearing from you cat loving house-sitters out there!
