The house is in the countryside 4 miles form the market town of Skibbereen.
It is a 100 years old traditional stone house set in ½ acre of land.
It is in the countryside, 4 m/6 km from Skibbereen, a market town, and 5m/8 km from Baltimore, a seaside holiday destination.
There is no TV, but plenty of books, - ideal for someone who likes being in a quiet place, and is comfortable with their own company. An ideal winter retreat for a writer, artist, or a couple.
The winter is never too cold in this region, so there is still a lot of green fields to rest your eyes on! The marine reserve of Lough Hyne is only 1 mile walk from the house, and from here day-trips around magnificent West Cork are really easy , if you have your own transport.
If you do not have yout own transport you can use my bike, at your own risk, to go to town or to Baltimore - I often walk when the weather is good.
The house is not completely isolated, there are neighbours on the same road. I will introduce you to them, and to a couple of friends that may help you to get around for everyday necessities if you need to.
There is a vegetable garden, but at the time of the year there ay be not too much in it.
If you like gardening there is always some work to do there!
The house :
Downstairs is kitchen, living and lounge/dining room, upstairs 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom.
2 wood burning stoves keep you warm, of which one with a back boiler, but also oil-fired central heating.
Rowan is a 11 year old Lab x collie. She's the most zen dog you have ever met... She usually goes for one long walk (about 1 hour, down the lake and back or longer) and a short one every day. And likes to sit outside but sleep indoors.
The two ginger cats, Zenzi and Zaffi, are quite young: they are supposed to live outside but are allowed in during the day. They sleep in the porch, so that they can get out - absolutely not in the house during the night!
