This is a long sit with approximate dates from late Jan through to around March 21. We are looking for a caring house sitter and cat sitter to care for our two lovely kitties and our beautiful home on. Our home is 30 min outside of Portland, OR with view, beautiful forest and plenty of space to walk. We are at the beginning of the Willamette Valley now a very renowned wine growing area full of wineries, distilleries and cideries you ca explore, along with delicious restaurants and music venues. Lots of places to hike and cycle all around.
Our home is on 5 acres at a higher elevation with views of Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainer. There are gardens and forests and plenty of area to walk and cycle. We are 15 min in two directions to two towns and another 20min in another direction. Our home is comfortable, wifi, TV etc., great kitchen and plenty of space. We also have a wonderful very large bathtub for relaxing and the best well water in the world!
We have two kitties - Jasper - a big orange guy , young and a super climber. The other is Pepper, all black, 11 yrs old and quite talkative, who loves to be close but not held. They are indoor/outdoor cats and must be in before dusk/sunset and not let out till after sunrise when fully light as there are coyotes and owls in the area we can lose them to. They need to be fed daily, Pepper 2x a day with wet food and their dry food is left out. They have a cat box in the garage they use in winter when cold which also needs to be cleaned.
There are also a bit of houseplants to care for and not kill which we would go over. We also have a wonderful sunroom and when sunny is lovely to spend time in. It is winter here with daily temps between mid 40s to mid 50s in the day and 5 degrees colder at night. We can have a cold spell in Feb. with snow or it can be so warm we plant peas in the garden - one never knows nowadays to the climate having shifted.
We prefer a woman sitter as our cats do better with women and someone who has no other commitments so we do not have to worry about the person leaving. This is a long sit so we need that guarantee. We have been members of this site almost since its inception and have had numerous house sitters and found many house sits for ourselves also all over the world. In over 25 yrs we had only 1 house sitter who flaked out on us as she said she had to go to her son. She left our cat and us high and dry and we were very far away. Fortunately, a friend came to our rescue and took our cat to her house but we had to return from our trip early. I understand emergency situations as I was caring for my mother many times while housesitting my self, but I would never leave without first securing the house and pet with another before leaving. I expect the same from any house sitter we engage in case of emergency. We are very aware of how it all works. We would need references and even maybe a police check due to the nature of the times. We either need to meet in person if you are in the area or zoom to meet.
