We have one outside/inside cat: Kaya. And one dog: Max, a Westie Mix. There is a fenced in backyard (very very big). Max can be walked in woods in back of house: there is a loop. Kaya has places to roam and exercise, but, of course, prefer to be indoors with us. Durham is a big music area with local places having musical events throughout the year. Three major universities are close by: Duke University, University of NC-Chapel Hill, and NC State.
Kaya has a cat flap. No litter box. We have big flat screen TV, Wifi, streaming, books ... lots of windows and light. We don't use hot water to wash clothes, we hang our laundry (don't use dryer), and don't use the heat element for the dishwasher. We compost our scraps and recycle as much as possibly can. So we are looking for some like minded eco friendly people. Place is in the woods & private but very close to shopping (less than 2 miles) and two neighbors. You need to come before it is dark to meet and greet!
There is plenty to do here. We have Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) which has off Broadway shows. State and local parks for hiking. RIvers to explore. A nifty small town to hang out in. Shopping less than 3 miles from house. Farmers' Markets. Museums in Durham and Raleigh (40 minutes). A trip to the beach (three hours ... but you have to take Max, the dog. We can arrange for neighbors to feed the cat.) We have a public indoor pool and ice skating rink two miles from the house. There are parks in Hillsborough and a great Riverwalk. Nice coffee shops and local restaurants.
Feed Kaya and Max twice a day. Feed indoor fish. Take Max for a walk; play with him; provide cuddles at night. You must like lap dogs. He loves to sit on your lap but you can tell him no when it's not to your liking. He sleeps on our bed. He has a dog door, a large deck where he can sun himself, and a huge fenced in yard. He prefers to survey his kingdom from the deck. We take him for walks in the back of our property on a path that loops around the house. He is on leash most of the time just so he will take the walk (he prefers to be lazy and go home). He is great on leash for walks in town, going to Weaver Street, going to Ayr Mount and the Riverwalk which are all in Hillsborough (3 miles away).
Sitter must have car. Our insurance will not allow. We prefer a couple and someone who is happy with temperatures around 68 in winter in house so our electric bill isn't sky high. We have two woodstoves which you can use if you have experience heating with wood.
