We desire a reliable and non-smoking couple or individual, fond of dogs and interested in a relaxing and rural (but by no means isolated) setting. Located on 70 acres in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, we offer a quiet and contemplative log home with a wooded trail and a nice pond. High speed WiFi available.
Tasks, besides keeping things tidy, include daily care and companionship (twice daily walking, ball-throwing, etc) for 2 loving dogs, opening up, feeding, watering and closing up laying hens and the feeding of two raptors. No handling of the raptors is required; just thawing food and feeding once a day. My wife is a licensed Master Falconer and will provide all instructions. We depart early on March 27th and return later in the day on April 23rd. The ideal candidates should be able to arrive earlier during in the day, on March 26, for familiarization with the responsibilities and orientation to the area. Our sitters are welcome to arrive earlier and stay later with us if that is helpful for your scheduling. Airport pickup/dropoff in Roanoke, VA or Greensboro, NC with use of a car is possible.
This area, at about 3000' elevation and along the Blue Ridge Parkway, is scenic and close to the wonderful and artsy town of Floyd. Shopping, art galleries, winery, pub, and nice restaurants all in a town with only one stoplight. The Floyd Friday Night Jamboree with old time music and dancing is the favorite of many. Recreation abounds; cycling, hiking, canoe/kayaking. Typical temperatures for the period would be 30s F at night, and 60s F by day but one should be prepared for cooler temps too. Over the course of 13 years, we have had sitters return over and over because they like the setting so much.
