We are looking for a reliable couple to take care of our large log home and 5 dogs for both short and long term. Trip planned for 3 weeks to Alaska in July 2022. There could be some shorter trips that have not materialized yet.
We would like our sitters to come a few days early to meet the dogs and go over the care of the house. Sitters are also welcome to stay a few days after we return. Sitters will have their own master bedroom with bathroom and use of almost the whole house. There are 3 autos for the sitters to use if needed. We have house cleaners come every week, and dogs go to groomers every month.
We prefer to have a couple (2 adults) as sitters as previous experience has shown that walking, grooming, and otherwise dealing with our 5 dogs tends to be too much for a single person. Dogs will not need bathing unless something unusual happens but a little light brushing each day to remove leaves, pine needles, or cedar scales is nice. Dog groomers will wash dogs on grooming days. One of our Keeshonds (Curly) requires glucose blood sugar test and insulin shots twice a day. The 2 Keeshounds (Curly and Whorly) are 11 years old. The 2 Aussies (Laia and Hahn) are 6 years old. Luke, our 12 yr. Aussie mix rescue dog has real problems walking and we are not sure how much longer he will be with us. The dogs generally have freedom to roam our property and the surrounding forest area. We have almost no auto traffic on our little road and our street is basicly one lane dead end into the forest. Some times we will put the dogs on the deck or into the run behind the house if there is more traffic on a weekend or Edison tree removal is active. We potty walk the dogs arond nine each evening before putting 4 of them into their sunroom with access to the dog run and one of them stays the night in the garage. I usually let the dogs out about 6:30 am after I get up. Curly the diabetic eats twice a day and the other dogs eat once each day plus a snack in the evening. Dogs do have ocasional close encounters with coyotes but we have never had any injuries or atacks in over 30 years.
My wife and I are retired teacher and we will need care for our home and dogs while we are gone. We have a 4000 square foot log home on 2 acres of very quiet forest land near Lake Arrowhead in the San Bernardino Mts of Southern CA.
Our non-smoking home is located in Skyforest in the San Bernardino Mountains at an elevation of almost 6000 ft (snow and rain in the winter). Our home is very quiet and secluded but only a couple of minutes from the main highway (HWY 18), 10 minutes from the Lake Arrowhead Village Resort and shopping center, and about a 30 minute drive down the mountain to the valley below and the freeways of Southern California. Our home has cable WiFi and television reception, We also have lots of DVDs and a piano if one know how to play. Nearest Airport is Ontario, CA.
