This is a post for a 2 week housesit: a sweet, rural sabbatical in Mexico. ................................................................................................... Small, charming one room stone casita with nice architectural detail - tiled floors, ironwork, tiled bath, large front porch, etc - and looks out onto a green garden with a hammock. Inside the casita is a bed with mosquito net, and the rest of the room is set up as a painting studio with a desk, easel, wall painting area, etc. Kitchen is quite small and simple - not a ton of counter space - but serviceable: has a blender, toaster oven, microwave, hand mixer, etc - w. large fridge, gas stove or electric single burner. Internet service available - not speedy enough to stream videos or tv online, but good for surfing and (+ possible use of a laptop, if you need one. Casita also has a stack of dvd movies you can watch on that). You will have use of a pay-as- you-go cellphone for local calls. ................................................................................................... Looking for someone to live (sleep) on the property and lovingly care for 1 dog/3 cats - feed 2x a day, occasional walks (no leash required) - all are mellow, indoor/outdoor and low- maintenance. A few flowerpots to water, leave the place as clean as you found it, and that's it. ................................................................................................... Property is on about 5 fenced acres, end of road: surrounded by lots of land, and very private. Situated in a mixed area of ex- pats and Mexican, directly across from the Landeta/Botanical Garden reservoir about 10 minutes drive out from San Miguel edge, about 20 minutes into centro. Beautiful countryside around this area - very old Mexico - tranquil and many directions to take interesting walks. Bird watchers will be in heaven - many to see from here and just a short walk to the botanical garden and reservoir. ................................................................................................... Car or moto is desirable for exploring and forays into town - though if you are happy to stay close to home - not entirely necessary. A neighbor has offered to give 2x a week rides into town and market (at her convenience) for provisions and other necessities. The walk to the bus stop is about 2 miles, though hardier souls could walk or bike into town around/across the reservoir. Cab service available - and fares are reasonable if one wants to take one back and forth to the nearest mall/grocery store nearby (about $6us each way - rate would be about double that to go into town). There is a small tienda about a mile down the road in the village that sells fruits, vegetables and other basic provisions. A fruit/vegetable truck come to the neighborhood on Saturday mornings. ................................................................................................... Looking specifically for independent types who enjoy being out in the country and aren't itching to go into town every day (i.e. if you don't have a car, aren't used to walking or biking a few miles a day it could be a challenge for you to try to do so). If this sounds like something you are interested in, please write and tell me about yourself, include your references - and any questions you may have. Dates are somewhat flexible: from August 5 (or a couple of days on either side of that), and then for a stay of 2 weeks. If you wish to stay in San Miguel to make your stay longer, I can recommend a variety of shoestring (or more luxe) options once you're here.
