Must be physically active and fit to enjoy this position mostly due to transportation issues.(see below) Rural . Farm is in beautiful, tiny Quizarrá. It is 25 minutes by car from San Isidro de El General. San Isidro de El General is located 3 hours from the airport in San Jose in the southwestern Pacific in the foothills of the Central mountain range of Costa Rica. Small town with almost no amenities but lots of friendly and helpful Costa Ricans. No local restaurants and this position is not suited for someone who wants to go to town more than once a week. Need to be able to be on your own- Good internet and wifi available. Biggest challenge: It is 25 minutes from town by your car or taxi ($20) . No car available except for emergencies. It is a 2 km walk to the bus and an hour ride by bus into San Isidro.May be able to get a lift to the bus though.
Our longtime Costa Rican neighbors manage the farm taking care of the bills. We expect you to be a presence on the farm for security reasons, do daily hike with 3 outdoor dogs and feed them. Also check on the free range horses daily. Keeping up the small vegetable garden and giving attention the ornamental beds around the house appreciated. Three chickens.
We have a reliable local woman who does maintenance cleaning every 2 weeks. Our lovely hardwood house requires special cleaning and we insist on this.
Really nice private, cool and functional house on huge farm with rainforest, biological corridor, a river you can jump into. Safe, birdwatchers paradise. Lots of exciting nature- including insects and spiders like all tropical places. Biodiversity hotspot. Near to Los Cusingos famous bird Reserve. Neighboring manager family is splendid resource and friendly, supportive.
Have to be willing to cooperate with manager but be independent. Some Spanish an asset. We do a little short term cabin rentals and prefer housesitter comfortable with that..Our manager does not speak English.and may need help. Her son is co-hosting and speaks English. Rental season ends March so not an immediate concern.
Comfortable house with gorgeous surroundings and ideal climate. Utilities are very expensive in Costa Rica and we ask the sitter to pay $100/month for the utilities (clean water, electric and internet). Transportation is challenging by some standards as there is limited bus service and the bus leaves from 2 kms away- must be fit and active unless plan to have own vehicle. As mentioned there may be a lift to the bus available for $3. The $20 taxi fare is an option for those who want to do a big weekly shop in interesting San Isidro. There is a weekly market with all the fruits, vegetables etc
Costa Rica dry season Dec- May -weather hotter but we don't have much humidity. Beautiful "green" season is May-Dec when the mornings are sunny and warm and expect daily afternoon rain mostly from 1:00-3:00. Nights are comfortably cool.
