We are looking for a non-smoking couple to care for our house and grounds as if it were their own. Your duties include mowing, trimming and keeping up the grounds. We could hire someone local to do that, of course, but we prefer that the house be lived in while we are away for the summer.
A feral cat has adopted us. We had her neutered and she lives outside all the time. She would expect you to feed her each day.
Vieques lies between the main island of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. It is home to the largest wildlife preserve in the Caribbean. No high-rise hotels line the beaches and there are no big-chain restaurants of any kind on the island.
Located on a hill in the center of Vieques, our home is comfortable and sturdy with nice landscaping. One of our favorite things is our outdoor shower and tub area and the outdoor gazebo. The house has two private levels - upstairs is our living quarters and downstairs is the guest/caretaker apartment It is located in a typical Hispanic neighborhood with roosters crowing and dogs barking.. Neighbors are close by on one side. Our neighbors are warm families who are always eager to be helpful. We prefer to be living as part of a local neighborhood rather than in a solely "gringo" enclave.
It is only an 8 min. drive to the beautiful Caribbean ocean which can be seen in the distance and a 5 min. drive to the grocery store and gas station.
Our downstairs apartment is comfortable and breezy with bedroom, living room, tiled bathroom (shower) and kitchen. We have a washer and dryer in our covered outdoor utility area.
We have planted fruit trees, including papaya, banana, pomegrante, lemon, pineapple and mangoes. Hope you like mangoes because there are more mangoes on this island in the summer than you could ever eat. We have planted a small vegetable garden that you are free to continue.
This is a wonderful opportunity for a responsible, mature couple who love gardening and the ocean, as we are close to many gorgeous unspoiled beaches. Island living can have its challenges, so you must be able to deal with unexpected situations with a flexible and cheerful attitude.
The property features a wooden pergola, shaded and with benches that overlooks the lower garden and the hills beyond. We also have an enclosed outdoor shower and bath tub. Most delightful after a day of snorkeling or gardening.
If we find the right couple this could be an annual house-sitting opportunity on our beautiful tropical island.
Spanish is a plus but not at all a necessity. The Post Office is part of the US Postal Service as we are part of the USA. This is convenient as you can ship whatever you want to Puerto Rico by Priority Mail or regular mail. Our house is only for local calls out. We provide WiFI house internet service through a DSL line. We also provide, water, cooking gas, and electricity. You need a car to get around the island and we provide our 2007 Jeep Patriot.
We have posted this sit for the period April thru September. However, we are willing to discuss 3 month sits, starting either in April or July.
