We live in a beautiful area in the rainforest at Kuranda, situated between the Great Barrier Reef and The Atherton Tableland. We have a 12 year old female Basenji, some guppies, tadpoles, pot plants and a waste water system. Julie, the dog, is fond of people, but not of other dogs, so we prefer house sitters without dogs or cats. She does not bark or yodel.
Kuranda is about 25k by road north of Cairns, and is quite a lot cooler at 400m altitude. The village is a tourist attraction and we are about 3K from it on the Cairns side. Kuranda has all services and a supermarket and many artists live and work here. There is a large shopping centre 12 mins East on the road to Cairns.
The house is not large. It is 6 years old with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, tiled floors with mats with a large breezeway and verandah. I mention the waste water system as it has ‘special needs’, i.e. only environmentally friendly detergents can be used, but we will supply these. Otherwise it does not require any attention.
In return for caring for our dog, fish (top up water and throw some fish food in occasionally) and watering of pot plants, we offer the house and its facilities. We do not charge for electricity or rates. If you use our phone we would like you to pay for your long distance calls. There is no mobile cover at the house.
We prefer non smokers.
We would like you to arrive at least a day prior to our departure, but will fit in with your travel plans, e.g. a couple of days earlier is OK, and the same for departure.
We depart 10 Sep and arrive home 21 Oct
