Our house is located midway between Cork and Killarney (centres of both are approx 40 minutes away) The coastal town of Kenmare is also around 40 minutes away. Train station (to Killarney and Dublin) is about 20 minutes away.
We are 5 KM (3 miles) west of Macroom (a busy market town with a market, supermarkets, cinema, theatre, cafes, shops, library) on the outskirts of the village of Clondrohid.
The house and large garden are surrounded by farmland with views across to the mountains that form the Cork/Kerry border. The village shop/post office and two pubs are within 10 minutes walk.
The house is 300 years old and full of character. The hot water in the summer is from Solar panels and a wood burning range at other times.
A wood burning stove, is in place for cosy evenings in the sitting room.
Knowledge of setting and safely maintaining fires is important.
Cooking on the wood burning range is possible and an electric hob and oven are available.
If you'd like to bring children that's no problem.
The cats need love and company, basically a lap 24/7 would suit nicely. Please note that the cats like to hunt, a lot!, *rabbits, birds, shrews etc.) and likes to show off their conquests to us humans, often at the foot of the stairs.......
The garden is about a hectare (2 acres) of mature trees, grass areas, small stream and pond. We have a medium sized polytunnel which would need some watering most days.
You can walk from the house to clondrohid village (pubs, shop, post office) without a requirement to go on the road.
We just ask you to look after the house as if it were your own and relax and enjoy your time here.
Please Note that we do not have a television. We do have good broadband and this is available throughout house and most of parts of the garden.
