What am I looking for in a house sitter?
Reliable and responsible - animal lover. Neat, clean, orderly; non-smoker. Happy in a rural setting 45 minutes outside of Nashville.
What responsibilities will my house sitter have?
Summerish - 5 hours/month bush hogging with Kubota tractor. Normal yard maintence with some commercial equipment.
Winterish - arrange for hay delivery. Put out hay two or three times.
Pick up feed as needed from co-op. Feed about three times a week - about 30 minutes each time. Kawasaki Mule available.
Normal household issues as needed as well as light maintenance.
What are the good features of my property and location?
Country living! Cable and broadband available. Eight minutes from Interstate - no stoplights. Quiet, safe, well off the highway. Excellent neighbors and support system.
New appliances, gas cook top, granite counters, four bedrooms, dining room, living room, library, office, and more.
LOTS of wonderful animals. Two horses, a donkey and sheep in the pasture.
Peacocks, chickens, a duck, cats and manx running free.
28 acres - half woods with trails, half pasture. Lots of wildlife. Barn with conditioned shop area and some tools.
Broad gardening opportunities in a fenced part of the West pasture - and more.
What do potential house sitters need to consider before applying for this assignment?
Sitter pays for whatever utilities they use.
If used for gardening, switching the 6' mowing deck to the 6' tiller on the tractor may require effort.
Depending on the weather, the front end loader on the tractor might be needed to smooth out pot holes in the 1/4 mile gravel drive (concrete at the house.) Maybe twice a year.
Together we will arrange for the sheep to be sheared by a professional (once or twice a year.)
If you are really adventurous the shears are in the East shed...
Three delightful, mature, responsible, and independent adult children may pass through to visit the animals - and crash on occasion - if all parties are amenable. They mostly live out of state.
