Our lovely home in northern New Mexico, completely furnished, is available for house sitting from Sept 2, 2013 for two weeks. We are located 45 miles NW of Santa Fe in Abiquiu. We have 6 acres ON the Chama River, approximately 800 feet of riverfront. The Colorado border is one hour away. Bodes General Store, a mile north, across the street from Georgia O'Keefe's home, carries everything you could possibly need including wine and beer, organic foods, produce, baked goods, and and a wonderful deli and cafe. Have more than two visitors or don’t want to cook? Abiquiu Inn, down the road (Highway 84) is just the place. Want the best Mexican food in New Mexico? El Farolito is about 12 miles away in El Rito. Want Pizza? Mamacita's is a mile south.
We are located between the Santa Fe National Forest and the Carson National Forest. Great hiking trails abound including Poshuouinge Ruins, only a mile SE (see Utube video) and Ghost Ranch (about 14 miles). At both Ghost Ranch and Abiquiu Inn you can enroll in all manner of classes and workshops. (see s) This would be the ideal retreat for writers or artists, quiet, serene and beautiful with an amazing view of Sierra Negra.
We have 2 bedrooms, 2 baths. 2 offices, an open living room/dining room, kiva fireplace, kitchen with all the amenities. Wireless, DSL and Directv are available. Unlike the immediate area, we have Verizon cell service within our house and around the perimeter. Two covered portals with outdoor furniture for sitting and gazing.
We have a koi pond with 6 fish, 3 cats, two of whom are house cats and one barn cat. The cats need to be fed, and they DO keep the mice away! We also have a 8 year old, very friendly, swimming black labradoodle, who is mostly inside. Please, no pets. We have more than enough!
There are also a few free-range chickens that supply fresh eggs, just one bonus among many others.
