UPDATE: We have filled the house sitting position for OCT Please contact me if you would be interested in future dates.
---------------------------- Responsible animal lover needed. We travel a few times a year, 2-4 weeks. Also, odd weekends here and there.
We are Americans living in a southern suburb of Tokyo. We share our updated Japanese style home with 1 dog and 1 deaf cat. They are both rescue animals and though gentle, they are a little shy so we would like someone who is good with pets. They are very low maintenance. They just need food and attention.
We are located in a quiet residential area within walking distance to most amenities including a local indoor/outdoor market and a lovely park with nice walking trails. We are a 5 min. walk to a bus station, 10 min. walk to the JR Kinugasa train station. From there it's about 30 mins. to historic Kamakura, 30 mins. to Yokohama, 90 mins. to downtown Tokyo. This is also a very convenient location for exploring the Miura peninsula.
Parking is available. However a car is not needed. We have TV/DVD/WIFI, laundry facilities, a small but efficient kitchen, as well as other amenities to make your stay here comfortable. Responsibilities will include feeding our pets and keeping them company and possibly water a plant or two. This is a great opportunity for an adventurous person or couple who would like to experience Japan on a budget.
--------- In response to the MANY replies that we've had, I thought I'd add a few things, just so everyone is clear on the situation.
-It's Japan.....you'll need a sense of adventure. Possibly a sense of humor too. - We are located South of Tokyo. Narita International Airport is East of Tokyo. It's about 3 hours by train from the airport to our house. - It is a rural/residential area. However, the metropolitan areas are easily accessible by train. - We received many compliments on the house. I hope the photos are not deceiving. This is an older home. It is adequate and comfortable. It is not huge nor is it the lap of luxury. It is a traditional Japanese house which has been updated somewhat. While here, you will be sleeping on Tatami mats and Futons. We DO have one of those great heated bath tubs.....if you've been in Japan, you know what I'm talking about! - If selected, you would need to arrive a day or two early to receive the keys, meet the pets, etc.
Now the good news.... It's an easy job. We don't require maintenance to the house or garden other than cleaning up after yourself. The dog and cat are both shy with strangers. They require patience but otherwise have no behavioral or health problems. General, feeding, water, scooping the litter box and walking are all that is needed.
