Hi, our home is on the beautiful Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland, near volcanic lakes, rainforest walks, swimming facilities and local weekend markets. We are only two kms. from the small town of Malanda (Supermarket, Baker, Butcher, Theatre etc), 20 minutes from Atherton, the hub town of the Tableland with large chain retail stores and 15 minutes from the beautiful village of Yungaburra.
We are a retired couple, love being home with our animal family and gardens, but we also enjoy travelling. We are looking for house-sitters who like country life and would enjoy caring for our cat family and chooks.
Our home is designed for easy relaxed living. There are three bedrooms, two with queen sized beds (one has a reverse cycle air-conditioner), two bathrooms, a sunroom, and a lounge with a slow combustion wood stove and air-conditioner. The kitchen/dining area is large with modern appliances, gas/electric range, dishwasher and reverse cycle air-conditioner.
Our favourite spot is the big back verandah overlooking the easy care and mostly native garden. There is a dining and lounge area on the verandah and we have recently built in a nice, deep outside bath set amongst greenery and in a partly enclosed area of the verandah.
The house is set on one hectare, most is open paddock with some rainforest and there is a lawn and low maintenance garden area around the house. We have a large rainwater tank and access rights to a creek just a 5 minute walk from the house where we pump into a high tank to provide additional water. The pump is quite new, reliable and easy to use.
We are looking for house sitters who would truly enjoy being with and caring for our cats. We have four ragdolls as well as three lovely rescue cats. All are clean and very friendly, get on well together (well most of the time) and love human company. Our cats are all wormed, flea treated, immunised and desexed.
Our floor surfaces and furniture are all cat friendly and easy care. We also have 2 Dyson vacuum cleaners – a stick and a cannister (for the inevitable cat fur) so we don’t waste our relaxation time on cleaning. We have a cat yard (with some rather bedraggled orchids, lavender etc.) attached to the house via a cat door to protect the cats and the birdlife.
We always have fresh eggs provided by our two big chooks and our Pekin Bantams. There is also a healthy natural veggie and herb garden that you are welcome to harvest. It has an easy turn on drip water system if the weather is dry. Our citrus trees bear well, so there are usually limes, lemons, grapefruit and oranges for us to enjoy and share. It is peaceful here the garden attracts the wild birds and the finches are a delight. We are close enough to neighbours but mature trees and gardens offer great privacy.
We are hoping to find house sitters who love animals, especially cats and who would like to spend some time on the Atherton Tablelands enjoying the peaceful country lifestyle while taking care of our animal family and home. November weather is usually warm and fine, with cool nights, great for swimming in the nearby lake, exploring or just relaxing.
We have a large clear driveway area with enough space to safely park a large van (if you are caravan people like we are) or you may prefer to live in our home. Either is fine with us, whichever works for you.
We are looking for house sitters who are available from Thursday 8th November until Wednesday 12th December. If you would like to start a little earlier or stay a little longer that is fine too. We have shared our home in the past with house sitters, Woofers and exchange students and still keep in touch with most of these wonderful folk.
As yet we do not have our flights booked but our dates and flights are all sorted, just waiting for us to find the right house sitters. Please contact us if you are interested in this house sit.
