We have 2 dogs, a red heeler cross and a Belgian Shepherd cross, both who get big (about 1 hour) walks in the bush nearby every day, as well as 4 rainbow lorikeets and 4 eclectus parrots. The walks in the forest are marked with flagging tapes so there is no concern about getting lost. Our house is in the rain forest near Cairns (about 40 minutes by car) and the area is beautiful and green.
Gardens normally need little work during the wetter months but the veranda plants need some watering and general simple care once a week.
The village of Kuranda is a tourist destination as well as the Barron Falls nearby, and the Atherton Tablelands are about an hour's drive from Kuranda, so there is lots to see in the local area.
Shopping is about 15 minutes away by car at Smithfield Shopping Center where there are two supermarkets, a K Mart and lots of the usual shopping centre type stores. There is also a small supermarket in Kuranda.
This house sit would be ideal for an outdoor-loving and early-rising couple as birds get fed at around 7:30 and then again at 4:00. The animal care jobs take a maximum of 3 hours, total a day, considerably less if jobs are shared. We've just had a disastrous pet sitter experience recently (the first EVER in 15 years) so we are quite nervous about travelling again but everything has been booked and paid for.
The dogs get driven into the forest about minutes away from our home, so there is a ute for you to use for that purpose as well as for your own needs.
