We live in an old Presbytery near Eauze in the Gers, South West France with 2 gites and a swimming pool.
We are looking for house and pet sitters from 23 September to 1 October and from 9 October to 16 October to care for our dog and two cats. You would be very welcome to stay in our gite for the time in between or go off travelling.
Gemma is a Korthal dog who is nearly 15 yrs old, diabetic, and mostly blind and deaf. She has had diabetes for about 8 years now and needs an insulin injection twice a day. Apart from that, she eats well, likes to play occasionally, sleeps a lot but enjoys company and needs looking after. The 2 cats are fairly self-sufficient but, apart from feeding, need keeping an eye on and like people contact. Injecting Gemma is not difficult, she is very good about it and we can easily teach someone who hasn’t injected dogs before.
We are in a small hamlet surrounded by countryside and vines. Nearest town for supplies is Eauze about 8 kms. Rural, peaceful and quiet perfect for walking, cycling, painting etc. We would appreciate a house sitter who enjoyed the house and garden rather than using the house as a base for travelling.
The house is comfortable, 3 beds/3 baths, with satellite tv and radio and good internet. We have a large garden and swimming pool. Our main concern is that the animals are well cared for and the house is kept clean, animal beds washed and, if necessary, light gardening and maintenance jobs.
A car would be necessary in this area but we may be able to offer one for short journeys. It is unlikely that the gites will be booked but, if they are, we would ask the carers just to check the guests in and be friendly.
