We are looking for someone who loves dogs, loves to walk, and would like a nice quiet mountain retreat. We live at 8,600' in a mountain neighborhood 30 minutes from Boulder, the nearest city, and 10 minutes from the small mountain town center of Nederland. Our dog, Oreo, is the focus of the house sit. She is 9-10 years old and is extremely laid back. She loves to greet people and other dogs on her walks. We need people who are happy and able to spend a lot of time loving and exercising her, with a couple of minute walks/hikes daily. She actually can take longer hikes (2-3 hours), but not every day. For those who want to take longer walks, it's okay to walk Oreo in the morning and then leave her for several hours while you take your hike.
Walking and hiking here at altitude is no small task, especially for those who come from sea level. It takes some acclimatization and a good level of fitness, as most trails, and our neighborhood roads, involve some degree of ups and downs.
One important and unique consideration about this housesit is that Andre's mother, Carol, lives with us in the basement apartment of our house. The main entrance to the house is through the garage and into the "mud room," so we share that entrance, the mud room and the laundry room, but all other living quarters are completely independent, with Carol's space downstairs and ours upstairs. Carol is 81 but quite self-sufficient. She needs no assistance with daily living but may require help from time to time with something like changing a light bulb or lifting a heavy box of cat litter (Carol has a cat that strictly stays in her apartment, and you would not need to care for the cat).
Our area is incredibly beautiful, quiet and safe, and our home is warm and comfortable. This is a perfect setting for someone seeking a quiet respite, a place to walk and do yoga, catch up on some reading or some tele-work, and to enjoy spring in the Colorado mountains. No drugs; non-smokers only; and only light use of alcohol please!
