Thank you to everyone who have replied to this ad - we have now found our house-sitters.
We are looking for house sitters (preferably a couple) to look after our 300 year old house, 4 horses, 1 dog and two cats from end-October this year for 6 weeks and again for 8 weeks from the start of 2014.
We live in the deepest rural heart of France, in a valley surrounded by vineyards, lakes and woods - and horse paddocks, of course. We are 2km from a thriving village with a grocer, bistro, pharmacy, boulangerie, doctor and tabac. You can either walk there or use our bikes to cycle there. Although we are not isolated, you will need a car to get to larger towns and supermarkets.
Our horses live out year round. They are fed twice a day on hay. We are looking for house sitters with horse care experience, so that they will be able to assist the farrier and recognise colic etc. as well as any problems a pregnant mare may have.
If you would like to immerse yourself in French culture and improve your French, this is the perfect spot. Our neighbours are very friendly and helpful and love meeting people from other parts of the world.
Our house sitters will be accommodated in an open plan cottage with two bedrooms, fitted kitchen, sitting room and shower room. There is a wood-burning stove, double glazed windows and roof insulation as well as electric heating to guard against the colder periods. During this time you may want to go on daytrips to the mountains for some skiing - although you can also do day trips to the Atlantic beaches.
