We'll be traveling for about 3 weeks in July, although we're not yet sure of the exact date of our return--sometime between 7/30 and 8/4, with 7/31 the most likely date. We're ideally looking for someone who is flexible, but if we need to miss each other by a day or two at the end of the trip, we can probably work with you.
We have two sweet kitties, a brother and sister who sometimes snuggle together; they're shy at first but love people and laps. We're hoping to find a cat lover who can keep them company. Both cats are gentle and shy, so we're especially looking for someone quiet, gentle, and comfortable administering a simple liquid med.
Bear, our tuxedo, has small-cell lymphoma. Poor little guy!! :( But thankfully, his disease is progressing very slowly; he's had no symptoms in the past few years except lethargy and weight loss, although he has become fairly frail. He just needs one easy med once per day, liquid Budesonide administered through his mouth, which he doesn't mind too much. To help him with the stress of our leaving, the more snuggles he gets from you, the better. :) (He's also a talker, sometimes waking us up at night--so you'll be happiest if you're able to easily fall back asleep if he has a bout of mewing!)
Our home is beautiful: light and bright and quiet, with the hills of the Coast Range visible to the west. The main floor is 1450 square feet including living room, kitchen, dining room, bathroom, and 2 bedrooms (one of which is also the TV "den"). There is a wonderful office space in the kitchen. The daylight basement is an additional 1000 square feet, although the ceiling is short in many places (sometimes only 6'3"). There you'll find laundry, bathroom, additional office space, and a rec room. The front and backyards are nicely landscaped, and the backyard is very large. We have WiFi; TV with so-so reception; and a DVD player; we don't have cable. The house has a centralized AC unit.
We just moved into this house in February, so our furniture is in flux and might not look exactly like the pics posted here. By the time you get here, we hopefully will have finished unpacking all of our boxes. We'll have a better idea of the house's summer needs by then too, including a feel for how well the AC works!
We're a ten-minute walk from Gabriel Park, which has walking trails, playgrounds, and landscaped areas to explore. 1.5 miles away is Multnomah Village, a beloved little Southwest Portland shopping area with cafes, pubs, restaurants, a local bookstore, and antiques. We're about 15 minutes from downtown by car and 35 minutes by bus. Our home and neighborhood are an ideal place to feel quiet and peaceful while still being very close to Portland's attractions.
Let us know if you're interested or have any questions. Kili and Bear would love to meet you! :)
