We are traveling for 2.5 weeks in July and August, leaving our two sweet kitties behind. They are a brother and sister who sometimes snuggle together; they are shy at first but love people and laps. We're hoping to find a cat lover (or two) who can keep them company. Both cats are gentle and shy, so we're especially looking for someone quiet, gentle, and comfortable administering a simple liquid med (read on...).
Bear, our tuxedo, has been diagnosed with small-cell lymphoma, although he's had few symptoms in the past year except lethargy, very occasional vomiting (maybe once every few months), and increased appetite from his meds. Poor little guy!! He just needs one easy med once per day--liquid prednisolone, administered through his mouth, which he doesn't mind. His lymphoma is slow-growing and not very likely to change in the next couple months, but we will let you know if it does. To help him with the stress of our leaving, the more snuggles he gets from you, the better.
Our home is cute and quiet, 1500 square feet including 2 bedrooms (one of which is also the TV "den"), 1.5 bathrooms, a living room, "bonus" office room, and sunroom with skylights. The sunroom is our favorite space in the house: out the French doors is a covered back patio leading to the terraced backyard. The front of the house has another nice porch area that gets lots of afternoon sun. We have WiFi; TV with so-so reception; and a DVD player; we don't have cable.
The house is shaded and stays cool when the weather is under 85 degrees or so, although there's no central air. For hotter days, we have tricks for cooling things off: blackout curtains upstairs, fans, and a bedroom window AC unit to make sure sleeping is still very comfortable.
We're situated just an eight-minute walk from Multnomah Village, a beloved little Southwest Portland shopping area with cafes, restaurants, a local bookstore, antiques, and a community center. The 44 bus stops two blocks from our house and runs downtown every 15 minutes--downtown is a 15-min bus ride away, or 10 min by car. Also nearby are several parks: Spring Garden Park has playgrounds and walking paths and is just a block away; Gabriel and Woods Memorial Parks are larger with more forested trails and are within a 10- to 15-minute walk. Our home and neighborhood are the ideal place to feel quiet and peaceful while still being very close to Portland's attractions.
Let us know if you're interested or have any questions. Kili and Bear would love to meet you!
Thanks, Katie & Ron
