We'll be traveling for 8 to 12 days in June, although we're not yet sure of the exact dates. We'll be leaving home no earlier than June 18 and returning no later than June 30, so that's the maximum length of stay. (The most likely dates are June 19 or 20 through June 28 or so.) We're ideally looking for someone who is flexible, but if you can't do all those dates, we might be able to work with you--we might be able to get family & friends to swing by for dates you can't cover.
We've been very careful and healthy during the pandemic, especially because one of us is immunocompromised, and no one besides us has been inside our house. By the time of our trip, we'll both be fully vaccinated. We ask that during your stay, you also follow all safety guidelines issued by health agencies (masks, social distancing, etc.), whether or not you're vaccinated, and that no one besides you comes into the house. Let us know if you have questions about this or think we should make an exception for your situation.
All that said, now for the fun stuff! :)
We have two sweet kitties, a brother and sister who sometimes snuggle together; they are shy at first but love people and laps. We're hoping to find a cat lover who can keep them company. Both cats are gentle and shy, so we're especially looking for someone quiet, gentle, and comfortable administering a simple liquid med.
Bear, our tuxedo, has small-cell lymphoma. Poor little guy!! :( His disease is progressing very slowly; he's had no symptoms in the past year except lethargy and weight loss, but he has become fairly frail. He just needs one easy med once per day, liquid Budesonide administered through his mouth, which he doesn't mind too much. To help him with the stress of our leaving, the more snuggles he gets from you, the better. :)
Our home is cute and quiet, 1500 square feet including 2 bedrooms (one of which is also the TV "den"), 1.5 bathrooms, a living room, "bonus" office room, and sunroom with skylights. The sunroom is our favorite space in the house: out the French doors is a covered back patio leading to the terraced backyard. The front of the house has another nice porch area that gets lots of afternoon sun. We have WiFi; TV with so-so reception; and a DVD player; we don't have cable. The house is shaded and stays cool during hot weather with ductless AC units, and cozy in winter months.
We're situated just an eight-minute walk from Multnomah Village, a beloved little Southwest Portland shopping area with cafes, pubs, restaurants, a local bookstore, and antiques. (Cafes, pubs, and restaurants currently offer takeout and limited in-person dining.) The 44 bus stops two blocks from our house and runs downtown every 15 minutes--downtown is a 15-min bus ride away, or 10 min by car. Also nearby are several parks: Spring Garden Park has walking paths and is just a block away; Gabriel and Woods Memorial Parks are larger with more forested trails and are within a 10- to 15-minute walk. Our home and neighborhood are the ideal place to feel quiet and peaceful while still being very close to Portland's attractions.
Let us know if you're interested or have any questions. Kili and Bear would love to meet you!
