We'll be traveling for about two to two-and-a-half weeks in July, returning no earlier than August 9th. (We'll ALSO be traveling for about 9 days in June, returning either Sunday, June 25 or Saturday, June 24, and we're looking for a pet sitter then too!) We're able to work with you on either end of the trip if you need a little flexibility, because neighbors can fill in the gaps.
We have two sweet kitties, a brother and sister who sometimes snuggle together; they're shy at first but love people and laps! We're hoping to find a cat lover who can keep them company, and we're especially looking for someone quiet, gentle, and comfortable administering a simple liquid med.
Both kitties have IBD, in remission with the help of liquid budesonide administered by mouth, which they don't mind too much. Bear, the tuxedo, also suffers from bouts of loud mewing from anxiety, so we sleep separately from the kitties and suggest that you do too! Each night, we give him liquid gabapentin, bring the kitties' food into the finished basement (where their litter also is), give them a nightly petting that keeps them happy, and shut them away there till morning.
Our home is beautiful: light and bright and quiet, with the hills of the Coast Range visible to the west. The main floor is 1450 square feet including living room, kitchen, dining room, bathroom, and 2 bedrooms (one of which is also the TV "den"). There is a wonderful office space in the kitchen. The daylight basement is an additional 1000 square feet, although the ceiling is short in many places (sometimes only 6'3"). There you'll find laundry, another bathroom, additional office space, and a rec room. The front and backyards are nicely landscaped, and the backyard is very large. We have WiFi; TV with so-so reception; and a DVD player; we don't have cable. The house has a centralized AC unit.
We're a ten-minute walk from Gabriel Park, which has walking trails, playgrounds, and landscaped areas to explore. 1.5 miles away is Multnomah Village, a beloved little Southwest Portland shopping area with cafes, pubs, restaurants, a local bookstore, and antiques. We're about 15 minutes from downtown by car and 45 minutes by bus (including a 10 min walk to the most frequent bus lines). Our home and neighborhood are an ideal place to feel quiet and peaceful while still being very close to Portland's attractions.
