First things first--safety and covid-19 logistics:
We are hoping to travel to the coast for a week in June, but our travel plans will be contingent on safety. Currently, Oregon's governor has asked Portlanders not to travel to the coast, so if she lifts that guidance by mid-June, we will take our trip, but if not, we will need to postpone it. We're hoping to find a housecarer who can be flexible and potentially cancel or postpone if needed. We're somewhat optimistic, though, that coast travel will be allowed by June.
For your and our safety, we are leaving 24 hours between our occupancy of our home and yours: we will leave the afternoon of 6/15 and you'll arrive the afternoon of 6/16; you'll leave 6/20 and we'll return on the 21st. We'll also disinfect all doorknobs, light switches, and other commonly touched surfaces with a bleach solution before leaving, and will ask that you do the same.
Now for the fun stuff:
We have two sweet kitties, a brother and sister who sometimes snuggle together; they are shy at first but love people and laps. We're hoping to find a cat lover or two who can keep them company. Both cats are gentle and shy, so we're especially looking for someone quiet, gentle, and comfortable administering a simple liquid med (read on...).
Bear, our tuxedo, has been diagnosed with small-cell lymphoma, although he's had no symptoms in the past year except lethargy. Poor little guy!! He just needs one easy med once per day--liquid prednisolone, administered through his mouth, which he doesn't mind. His lymphoma is slow-growing and not very likely to change in the next month, but we will let you know if it does. To help him with the stress of our leaving, the more snuggles he gets from you, the better.
Our home is cute and quiet, 1500 square feet including 2 bedrooms (one of which is also the TV "den"), 1.5 bathrooms, a living room, "bonus" office room, and sunroom with skylights. The sunroom is our favorite space in the house: out the French doors is a covered back patio leading to the terraced backyard. The front of the house has another nice porch area that gets lots of afternoon sun. We have WiFi; TV with so-so reception; and a DVD player; we don't have cable. The house is shaded and stays cool during hot weather with ductless AC units.
We're situated just an eight-minute walk from Multnomah Village, a beloved little Southwest Portland shopping area with cafes, pubs, restaurants, a local bookstore, and antiques. (Cafes, pubs, and restaurants currently offer takeout but not dine-in options as of May 2020; this could change in June but no guarantees.) The 44 bus stops two blocks from our house and runs downtown every 15 minutes--downtown is a 15-min bus ride away, or 10 min by car. Also nearby are several parks: Spring Garden Park has walking paths and is just a block away; Gabriel and Woods Memorial Parks are larger with more forested trails and are within a 10- to 15-minute walk. (All are open.) Our home and neighborhood are the ideal place to feel quiet and peaceful while still being very close to Portland's attractions.
Let us know if you're interested or have any questions. Kili and Bear would love to meet you!
