Bob & I are looking for a responsible sitter(s) (either a single or a couple) to take care of our cats and home - and sometimes our dog "Buddy". We live on Orcas Island with great mountain, island, and water views. We have 4 indoor/outdoor cats (Mao, Marty, Sebastian & Billie). Our little terrier mix named "Buddy" usually travels with us - but will have to stay home for some of our trips this year. Our home is on 12 acres with two ponds, fields, and forests. In our garden, you will be able to enjoy one of the most beautiful places to pull weeds that you will ever find - plus strawberries, raspberries, fresh garden greens, etc. We sometimes rent our home as a vacation rental and your help with occasional cleaning would be appreciated. You can find info and pictures of our main house and guest house and property at: orcasoasis .
Dates we will need pet/house sitters include:
April 17 to 29;
May 28 to June 18;
August 16 to September 1;
November 7 to 29; and
December 2 to end of February.
During the times between our travels, the pet-sitters would be able to stay on Orcas Island and explore or head off-island to explore nearby places like the Olympic Peninsula, Cascade Mountains, Seattle & Puget Sound area, Victoria & Vancouver Island, Vancouver BC & the coast and mountains of Vancouver Island.
Since we will need sitters on numerous dates this year, a sitter/sitters that could stay longer on Orcas Island would be great since there is alot to get to know about our home. This opportunity could develop into a longer-term situation for the right person(s) if able to help with some gardening/yard work and possible other housekeeping tasks in exchange for a place to stay on beautiful Orcas Island. This would be a good opportunity for someone wanting to explore the Pacific Northwest.
You will have time to explore Orcas Island while you are here. Orcas Island has great hiking, biking, kayaking, sailing, & whale watch tours, and many other things to do. Moran State Park has lots of trails, 2 freshwater lakes, 2,500 ft Mount Constitution. There are also lots of other hiking trails in the area. Sailors, kayakers, hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts will really enjoy Orcas Island. Barb & Bob both sail on our boat in the local Orcas races and on some longer distance races. Barb volunteers at the local Orcas Animal Shelter - helping in the medical clinic on surgery evenings. It is a no-kill shelter that has been able to help animal shelters on the mainland by taking animals they have difficulty adopting. The shelter is happy to have longer-term visitors volunteer to come in and spend time with the cats, walk the dogs, etc. Barb plays uiulele and blues harmonica and Bob plays guitar. Orcas Island has lots of local music groups with open mics and jams often. There is even a monthly ukulele jam on the inter-island ferry.
We'd be happy to see any references you can share with us. We look forward to hearing from you if you can pet sit / house sit for us for some or all of our dates.
