We live in the beautiful Intag Valley in Ecuador, in the Andes Mountains at 5,000 feet up to 6,000 feet. Our land fronts a rushing river and has 2 creeks (one with a covered bridge) and natural springs. We access it from the road with a hand pulled cable car. there is also a path to town if you prefer. Our home/casita is a cottage. There is also a newly built cabaña With river View. Both have all the amenities.
It's beautiful, tranquil, and a nature lover's paradise. We are in the process of building our main home.
We have a large, friendly Rottweiler. You will enjoy her company!
Our very charming cabaña on the river has a hammock --a good places to relax. It has an open air fire pit next to it. There is another under cover fire pit for evening enjoyment.
You are welcome to use produce from the gardens and there's a typical market in Apuela Sunday mornings. APUELA is a small town, yet has several stores to supply your wants and needs including a few Internet locations including free access on the town square. (WE HAVE NO INTERNET ON OUR PROPERTY.) The restaurants charge $2.50 for almuerzo--a full fixed price lunch, including soup and juice. In he evening a few outdoor grills open where you can get a nice supper for $1.50. People are friendly, but speak almost no English, German, or French. There are a few general volunteers and Peace Corps volunteers who do. you can get along with some basic Spanish and good pantomime skills. :)
Apuela is about a minute walk and you can hitch a ride anywhere (even in trucks) for a usual contribution of 25 cents. Nearby there's a wonderful hot springs. Nangulvi, also the site for booking many outdoor activities. Bird watching is excellent here. A cloud forest is a short bus ride. Warriman is a pre- Incan sun pyramid and artifacts museum, a place to receive a meteor massage, have a meal, and attend overnight ceremonies for every solstice and equinox. It also has the longest and highest zip line in the hemisphere! A $10 ride! Horses, bikes, and motorcycles are for hire. This area is a wonderful place for hiking and bird watching.
WE DO NEED YOU TO STAY ON THE LAND EVERY NIGHT WHILE WE ARE AWAY. Our dog, Bukya, can only stay alone for 3-4 hours. Looking after our organic gardens (we prefer those who have gardening experience) and loving our dog are the only things you need to do. We will be there the first few days or so to help you get oriented. You do not need to pay for utilities. your only cost will be your tele usage.
Ecuador has a free 3 month visa upon entry.
Speaking some Spanish is very helpful. Also being reasonably strong and fit. No smoking, no drugs, no exceptions.
We look forward to hearing from you.:-) Lauren and David
