we were told that it wasn't going to be possible for them. So now we are looking again...

...ideally for a couple with some horse/pony experience, i.e. handling horses and possibly even riding them.

Due to the season there won't really be any garden maintenance but possibly some snow-shoveling...

I am breaking our 6-months Sabbatical up into two slots as I am thinking that many would love to be home for the Christmas period and we are flexible with our travelling plans...

So the first house-sit would be from Oct 1st to just before Christmas and the second one from early January till the end of March 2023.

My husband and I are off to a six-months sabbatical this autumn. We are looking for a couple that would want to stay at our cozy cottage and use it as a base to explore the Oberpfalz/Franken region of Bavaria and/or work from home. You will be able to experience Christmas markets and lots of walking paths starting from our doorstep.

We can break up our sabbatical into two blocks, one for autumn and early winter and one for late winter/early spring to facilitate for house-sitters that can only sit for a shorter period of time; we are happy to discuss and work out a plan depending on how it works out best for everybody, or it can be a full six months house-sit.

In exchange three good-natured ponies (Connemara breed) need to be fed mornings and evenings and be mucked out daily. Expect to spend about one hour per day for the typical horsy chores. If you are experienced riders, you can hack out in the surrounding forests or even take riding lessons in the nearby riding school. It would be fabulous if you brought some horse expertise and enjoyed some trail-riding, but if  you are not into riding, though, I will find jockeys for them locally. The main thing is the feeding of the three ladies and mucking the paddock and of course the loving touch!  One of the ponies has celebratied her 31st birthday last Thursday and therefore requires a daily tablet and some extra food but she is just as happy and lively as the other two aged 5 and 13. It will involve driving  a small van with horseshit  twice a week to a neighbouring farmer, and getting sawdust for bedding, unloading and moving haybales every ten weeks - that's the moment where my husband and I work together with the farmer, therefore I would really need two people! The daily chores though can easily be done by one person - which would be me when not going on a Sabbatical... a car driver's license is required for removing the horseshit and getting sawdust as well as for getting to supermarkets and other shops in 8-10 km distance and a certain physical fitness and practical approach to life would generally be helpful.

The house is simple but equipped with everything you need, such as heating (central heating and wood burning stoves), dishwasher, internet and TV in a quiet rural location, with a large garden, adjacent to a small village and surrounded by fields and forests, yet only 36 km from Nuremberg, 150 km from Munich, lots of routes for walking or riding in the immediate surroundings.

I think this stay would suit people who love being out in nature and enjoy sitting at a campfire or a fireplace at night. It is not for people who want bright city lights (although they are in driving distance). Ideally you would have some experience with ponies.

Attractions like Altmühltal, Fränkische Schweiz, Nuremberg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Regensburg are in driving distance. Car necessary but car use can be made available to experienced driver. I can send more photos if interested.

We are very looking forward to hearing from you as we not only see this as a house-sit but also as the opportunity to get to know people from around the world and introduce them to the Bavarian life-style, which, I think, we succeeded in with previous house-sitters from Australia and the US.

We would be very happy to hand over our life-style (without the 9 to 5 working hours) and house to a reliable couple that is animal-loving, autonomous, skilled and creative if it comes to fixing minor problems and good communicators. You are welcome to bring a well-behaved dog as we will be taking our Collie on tour with us. If you think that our cottage is the place you could feel at home for the best part of half a year, please don't hesitate to get in touch! We want to give you a great experience for your Bavarian stay and are looking for an experienced house-sitting couple that will enable us to enjoy our once a life-time sabbatical.

Very looking forward to hearing from you! Please fill us in with a brief description of your previous experience regarding ponies/horses and house-sitting. Hoping it's not too late to find you out there!

Thank your for taking the time to read this,

Best regards,

Marion and Pete
