We are looking for house sitters to look after our house and fur kid - George, a very well loved rhodesian ridegback.
Dog lovers with experience in dog sitting are a must! He is well behaved (can be a little mischevious), easygoing, and will provide plenty of love and entertainment. He requires daily walks and good company. There are lots of lovely dog walking spots close by.
Our home is in Maun - the gateway to the world famous UNESCO heritage site, the Okavango Delta. It is still very rural by European standards and there is plenty of opportunity for exploring some of Botswana's finest national parks and cultural sites before or after your sit. We have had numerous house sitters, most of whom have gone on to do a safari afterwards, so we/they can provide recommendations should you also wish to do this.
We stay within a 10 minute drive to the town centre. Public transport is mainly taxis which are plentiful and affordable. The best way by far to get around is with your own vehicle. You can organise rentals in town, but we generally leave a vehicle for use around town. The house is a spacious 2 bed with lots of outdoor space, air con, a work area, WiFi, and set in a quiet neighbourhood, just back from the river where you can hear (and sometimes see) hippos and the call of the fish eagles. The river is easily accessed on foot, although currently Botswana is experiencing a severe drought, so the river bed is dry.
Maun is within driving distance to Moremi Game Reserve (about 1.5 hours to South Gate), and to the Makgadikgadi Pans (around 2 hours) and many more of Botswana's wonders (Central Kalahari and Chobe Game Reserves). The wonderous Victoria Falls is also not far away!
The town (Maun) has numerous supermarkets where you can mostly find what you are looking for and some favourite local watering holes and coffee shops with good food and pleasant atmosphere are within close vicinity.
My partner and I are both nature and wildlife lovers. I (Beckie) have been in Botswana now for 9 years (originally from the UK) and my partner (JP) is born and bred Motswana. We both love to travel, whilst making sure our fur kid is well cared for. We will do our upmost to make your stay smooth running and comfortable and just ask in return that you take good care of our dog and our property.
For those who haven't yet had the opporutnity to visit Botswana and this wonderful part of the country, now is your time! We would ideally like sitters that are familiar with the workings of an African country or have experience of sits in developing countries and remote areas. Couples preferred but not essential.
