We are looking for one or two self sufficient non smoking adults who are genuine cat lovers, have some practical experience of property ownership/maintenance and both willing and able to undertake some basic outside work to keep everything looking tidy (even if it rains!), in order to take care of our quiet ecological finca with five properties in Southern Spain for the three months of early November 2022 to January 2023 inclusive.
The key points are:
* CATS: care of our lovely cats some who will be staying in the same property as the sitters over Winter including feeding them both morning and evening, offering plenty of love and affection as family pets - as well as capable of managing any ill health including taking them to the local vet, giving medication etc if required. Our cats are outdoor cats for much of the warmer months, so a catflap is provided to allow them to come and go from the house during the Winter months as they please. We also take care of some of the local farm cats during Winter, such as feeding and neutering where possible with the support of a local vet. There are also occasional visiting dogs from neighbouring fincas too, one in particular who is a very friendly regular!
* PROPERTIES: there are five holiday rental properties on the finca, including our original family home we offer to sitters – so any unoccupied property will need to be checked every morning and evening, to ensure they remain secure, watertight, as well as aired on all sunny days or heated during colder and damper periods to keep them feeling fresh and dry, depending on the weather. (If we do get a rare Winter booking, this is all managed by ourselves and our cleaning company.)
- Please note that during these quiet Winter months with few bookings, some general annual maintenance and routine safety checks will need to be carried out inside and out all the houses as well as private gardens, by our local third party providers eg builder, plumber etc as well as ourselves occasionally in attendance where required too. Housesitters are not expected to be involved any of this work, unless extra hands are required to deal with an urgent issue. However, at least one person will need to be on site to let people in and out of the gates (which are locked with codes for access), be available to accept deliveries when required and ensure everything is safe and secure at the end of each day (with no cats shut into houses).
* GARDENS: we are an organic finca so some areas will need regular general tidying up and basic gardening throughout the week to keep everything manageable particularly around the houses, eg handwatering patio pots and flowerbeds not covered by irrigation system every few days during drier periods, raking up/sweeping leaves, sweeping property and pool patios and main paths, some weeding of pots and flowerbeds etc. The vast majority of the finca is left natural, while we have a gardening team 1 or 2 days a month to undertake the larger jobs such as strimming, mowing, cleaning palms etc with their own equipment - as well as managing fallen branches etc.
During the Winter months there is always garden and general maintenance projects on the list, so for those who like to keep busy, help is always welcomed and appreciated!
A basic understanding of Spanish as well as an enjoyment of a quiet rural life would be an ideal fit, while a car is essential due to our location with very limited public transport – while sitters are required to be on the finca most days and also every night for our insurance. The Wifi is good for those who want to work from home or stay in touch, but it is not the fastest speed you will find in urban areas. However, there is great 3G and 4G mobile coverage.
