Hello! Are you interested in spending your 2020 summer housesitting in Arizona's beautiful Sky Islands? We don't know what the future holds any more than you do! However, we'd like to make some tentative plans that require the services a housesitter, someone who is also willing to be tentative, in case the possibility of house sitting and travel open up this summer!
You want a quiet place to explore, reflect, write, grow, a place for your consciousness to creatively consider possibilities--meanwhile we are looking for a housesitter for our rural SE Arizona home from July 2 through October 10--a long sit for some folks, just right for others. Are you interested?
Our small, simple custom log home on 80 acres is in the Sky Islands of SE Arizona, and is managed as a wildlife preserve. Perfect for the person who enjoys peace, wildlife and solitude. A bird watcher's paradise--140 species observed, so far! If you're the kind of person who needs to hang out at the local coffee shop each day, this is NOT the place for you!
Responsibilities may possibly include watering plants and trees indoors and out, keeping water pans filled for birds and wildlife (mule deer, bobcats, coyotes, gray fox, javelina, ring tailed cats and more), and any chores that may be necessitated by possible monsoons, (I.e. check 3 creek beds to see if the rising flash floods damaged the fences. Then fix them well enough to keep the cows out! The last couple years this meant the "sitter" walked the wash after a heavy rain 3 or 4 times during their 3 month time here. )
Also picking up the mail at least once a week. Some fix-it or handyperson skills might be helpful.
A neat and tidy single individual, or couple, with no pets or children is preferred. This situation is ideal for the explorer, artist, writer, meditator.
Electricity and a good well are on the property. There is no TV, WiFi or Internet EXCEPT what is available from your own Verizon-compatible device--a Verizon tower is on the mountain behind the house, so there is excellent service. A television is available for watching DVDs. A vehicle is provided for local use--our road requires a high clearance vehicle, but not usually 4 x 4.
Local attractions: wildlife, birds, tranquility. Douglas is 17 miles away, a Mexican border town with shopping and medical services. The old mining town of Bisbee is 40 miles away with interesting culture and arts. Tucson is about 140 miles and provides nearest air service. Phoenix is about 250 miles.
There is a small dirt airstrip on the property. There is also a small rustic apartment separate from the house (for guests, not renters) as well as a shop and hangar.
Our target dates are July 2 through October 10, 2020. We are most interested in someone who could sit the entire 3 month time. We would really like to find a person(s) who would be able to stay the entire time for several years in a row as we anticipate traveling within a similar time frame in 2021 and 2022.
