Are you the one who can help us?! Welcome Adventurers and Nomads, Writers, Artists and Seekers!!
We are offering a 4-month stay (June 9-October 15, 2022) housesitting in SE Arizona's beautiful Sky Islands. We are situated at 4760 ft elevation in an ancient volcanic ashflow valley formed around 2-4 million years ago. If Covid is still a concern, you can be as isolated as you want to be for as long if you want. And have contact with no one, if that is your desire.
If you want a quiet place to explore, reflect, write, grow--a place for your consciousness to creatively consider possibilities, to spend time away from a stress-filled life--here it is!!
We are looking for a housesitter for our rural SE Arizona home from June 9 through October 15, 2022--a long sit for some folks, just right for others. Are you interested? We would also consider a multi-sitter situation if you're interested but can't commit to the whole time.
Our small, simple custom log home (it's comfortable, not luxurious) on 80 acres is in the Sky Islands of SE Arizona, and is managed as a wildlife preserve. Perfect for the person who enjoys peace, wildlife and solitude. A bird watcher's paradise--140 species observed, so far! If you're the kind of person who needs to hang out at the local coffee shop each day, this is NOT the place for you!
Responsibilities may include watering plants and trees indoors and out, keeping water pans filled for birds and wildlife (mule deer, bobcats, coyotes, gray fox, javelina, ring tailed cats, reptiles and more), and any chores that may be necessitated by possible monsoons, (i.e. check 3 creek beds to see if the rising flash floods damaged the fences. Then fix them well enough to keep the cows out! (there are neighbors who could help if necessary)The last couple years this meant the "sitter" walked the wash after a heavy rain 3 or 4 times during their 3 month time here. And had little or nothing to fix. You must be physically able to walk about 2 miles over mostly level but rocky terrain plus up and down one hill. Sturdy walking shoes and a sunhat are essential. You must be comfortable with the possibility of encountering rattlesnakes and scorpions. Treat them with respect and they are not a problem.
Also picking up the mail at least once every two weeks. The mailboxes are 3 miles away. FedEx and UPS deliver right to the door. Some fix-it or handyperson skills might be helpful.
A neat and tidy single individual, or couple, with no pets or children is preferred. This situation is ideal for the explorer, artist, writer, meditator.
Electricity and a good well are on the property. There is air conditioning and ceiling fans. . There is no TV, WiFi or Internet EXCEPT what is available from your own Verizon-compatible device--a Verizon tower is on the mountain 5 miles behind the house, so there is excellent service. A smart television is available for watching DVDs or from your own devices. A vehicle is provided for local use--our road requires a high clearance vehicle, but not usually 4 x 4.
Local attractions: wildlife, birds, tranquility. Douglas is 17 miles away, a Mexican border town with shopping and good medical services. The old mining town of Bisbee is 40 miles away with interesting culture and arts. Tucson is about 140 miles and provides nearest air service. Phoenix is about 250 miles. We have not experienced any effects from the so-called border crisis in this area.
There is a small dirt airstrip on the property. There is also a small rustic apartment separate from the house (for guests, not renters) as well as a shop and hangar.
Our target dates are June 9 through October 15, 2022.
(We would really like to find a person(s) who would be able to stay the entire time for several years in a row as we anticipate traveling within a similar time frame in 2023 and 2024.)
Are you the right one for this housesit? Please read all the descriptions carefully as we've had housesitters in the past who didn't grasp how off the beaten path we are. Please ask questions!! There are no dumb questions, only unasked ones!!Contact us through this site to describe why you'd like to stay here! Peaceful adventure awaits you!
Thanks, Kris and Russ
