I'm looking for a couple, who can fullfill a for long term house / pet / land / property sitting / caring, for 5 months.
Arriving 16th October 2019 through to the end of March Allowing the evening and the following day as a tour / settle in period / introduction to house and animals.
English or French speaking only.
This is my first 'long haul' trip away. My 'chambre d'hôte' business will be closed in my abscence.
Your accommodation will be my apartment, but I ask you to do a regular (3 times a week or every day) vieiwng through the part of the building which is set up as my business 'chambre d'hôte' (bed and breakfast accommodation), as in the past I have had a toilet that decided to leak, for no apparent reason.
I would like to offer for a couple who'd appreciate a visit to the country side of the French Pyrenees, who enjoy living in a peaceful rural location. Being actively hands on with caring for my 2 cats and chickens AND land / vegetable garden.
A healthy attitude, trustworthy, energetic, conscientious well being and caring towards my animals and home. Be prepared for winter and spring weather - you may have glorious sunshine, you may have snow / rain.
The responsibilities required of the house sitter:-
My 2 cats, Zinzin and Kifkif, aged 14 are easily pleased with food and then sleep, they are often off exploring outdoors, or asleep on the sofa.
I also have 3 chickens remaining from a larger 'flock' = feeding / fresh water, morning and evening. Locking the chickens in at nightime.
ALL animals get fed twice a day and clean water, morning around 8am and again around 4pm.
My vast vegetable patch is on a steep slope, so you must be sure footed and agile and NO heart conditions. You may harvest some of the produce in the garden and enjoy for your lunch / dinner.
General maintenance of the property is crucial, therefore experience with DIY would be appreciated. As this is a long term let and over winter, I need to be assured that if there is a problem with a frozen tap outside that bursts, or a slate off of the roof that it can be remedy'd, to avoid damage, before calling in a local artisan.
The features of the property and location:-
Located in the country side, in a quiet hamlet with a couple of neighbours, who you may not even encounter. With wonderful views, peaceful environment, lovely walks and the quiet village of Galey within 10 mins walk. If you like the country side this is a great location, if not, please do not apply.
Your accommodation is my apartment and NOT the bed and breakfast accommodation, (business is closed in my abscence). My home is at the end of the building, it is rustic yet comfortable and cosy. In the cooler days it heats up quickly when the log burner is lit. There is no central heating. Wood is provided, kindling is not. There is an additional timed electric heated towel rail in the bathroom. There is no heating in the bedroom, the bed has an electric blanket.
My accommodation consists of - small kitchen / sitting room / dining room / bathroom / 1 x bedroom.
My home is situated at 702M facing south in the Pays Couserans, Ariege. The views are open and wide and due to being south facing, also extremely sunny. Its a great location for walkers, hikers, cyclists.
The main town of Saint Girons is 23kms by car, with amenities such as banks, supermarkets, hospital, vets etc. The commune village of Galey is 10 minute walk, with a bar and restaurant, and a bar restaurant in the village of Orgibet 1km down the road.
There is WiFi for internet access, I do not have a TV, I do have quite a few books available. Orange mobiles have poor reception, but it depends on your gadget, SFR works well.
My house sitters need to consider the following before applying:-
This is the first time I have 'travelled' for such a length of time, it is essential that we have contact in my abscence, to ensure you are comfortable and the cats are fine (if they need to visit a vet) and the property is being looked after.
Winter & Spring = You should be prepared for 'what ever the weather', be it snow, rain or glorious sunshine & a deckchair on the terrace, you will have to venture outside and care for my animals whatever the weather, clear snow from the chicken run and also clear the snow off the roof of the pergola as its not built to hold the extra weight should there be a huge snowfall. It will have extra props installed to support it over the winter.
Own transport essential.
NO SMOKING INSIDE THE BUILDING.
