Arriving 2nd or 3rd NOVEMBER, allowing the evening and the following day as a tour /settle in period / introduction to house and animals, then you depart on 30th NOVEMBER 2018.
English or French speaking only.
We would like to offer for a couple who'd appreciate a visit to the country side of the French Pyrenees, care for animals and enjoy living in a peaceful rural location. Being actively hands on with the running of the house/pets = 2 dogs small dogs, 2 cats, and a small holding of three pigs, 8 egg laying chickens, poly tunnel with plants from the summer and perhaps young seedlings growing for the winter and a large vegetable garden, watering house plants.
A healthy attitude, trustworthy, energetic, conscientious well being and caring towards our animals and home. Be prepared for autuminal weather - you may have glorious sunshine, you may have snow / rain.
The responsibilities required of the house sitter:-
Our 2 dogs, Burt and Olive, age 10, love company, lunchtime walk of an hour or longer, on leads at all times, these are provided. If you wish to take them out with you in your car, they'll enjoy that too. Burt and Olive live in our house with us, not in kennels outside.
Our 2 cats, Zinzin and Kifkif, aged 13 who are easily pleased with food and then sleep, are often off exploring outdoors, or asleep in our sitting room on the sofa.
Further livestock includes 3 Gascon pigs and 8 chickens - feeding / fresh water, morning and evening. Keeping an eye on the fence boundary's for the pigs due to their digging or if it snows. Locking the chickens in at nightime.
ALL animals get fed twice a day and clean water, morning around 8am and again around 4pm.
We have a poly tunnel which may contain plants for the winter months / vegetables growing, it will require a little maintenance:- watering and temperature control depending on the weather. Kev will instruct you. There may be seasonal produce in the vegetable garden which you can enjoy.
Our vast vegetable patch is on a steep slope, so you must be sure footed and agile and NO heart conditions. You may harvest some of the produce in the garden and enjoy for your lunch / dinner.
The features of the property and location:-
We are in the country side, in a quiet hamlet with a couple of neighbours, who you may not even encounter. With wonderful views, peaceful environment, lovely walks and the quiet village of Galey within 10 mins walk. If you like the country side this is a great location, if not, please do not apply.
We ask you to use our accommodation as your principal accommodation, as this is where we relax with the company of our cats and dogs. (they are not allowed in the bed and breakfast, our business is closed in our abscence). Our home is at the end of the building and is NOT renovated, it is rustic yet comfortable and cosy. In the cooler days it heats up quickly when the log burner is lit. There is no central heating. Wood is provided, kindling is not. There is an additional timed electric heated towel rail in the bathroom. There is no heating in the bedroom, the bed has an electric blanket.
Our accommodation consists of - small kitchen / sitting room / dining room / bathroom / our bedroom.
Our home is situated at 702M facing south in the Pays Couserans, Ariege. The views are open and wide and due to being south facing, also extremely sunny. We are in a great location for walkers, hikers, cyclists (Tour de France passes through the valley most years, as it will in July 2018).
The main town of Saint Girons is 23kms by car, with amenities such as banks, supermarkets, hospital, vets etc. Our commune village of Galey is 10 minute walk, with a bar and restaurant, and a bar restaurant in the village of Orgibet 1km down the road.
We can offer you WiFi for internet access, we do not have a TV, we do have many books available. Orange mobiles have poor reception, but it depends on your gadget, SFR works well.
Our house sitter needs to consider the following before applying:-
Our main concern being our pets / animal well fare. If one of them becomes ill, we need to have confidence that we can rely on you to contact us and we can assist remotely / contact a vet.
It is for our housesitters to be around the house. No overnight excusions away, no smoking inside the building.
Please follow any instructions regarding the poly tunnel and vegetable garden, respecting our property reporting to us via / if requiring our assistance or reporting any mishaps. Please leave our place clean and tidy for our return, as it was for your arrival.
Autumn / winter = You should be prepared for 'what ever the weather', be it snow, rain or glorious sunshine & a deckchair on the terrace, you will have to venture outside and care for our animals whatever the weather. Please keep warm, if you
