Looking for one or two people to care for our home and animals in Belize, near the capitol Belmopan, for to 3 months and, optionally, if you'd like, to stay longer.
We have a spacious home on the Belize River with a huge deck that has a spa on it, an American-style kitchen, and laundry room with washer and dryer. The guest bedroom has an en suite bath. The house is situated on two fully-fenced acres. We are on the main road and the bus stop is just outside our gate. The capitol, Belmopan, is less than 6 miles away.
We have 4 dogs: 2 are German Shepherds. They are our guard dogs - very loving and affectionate with people they know but ferocious with strangers. Part of the house sitting job is to be sure they are penned whenever the gardener, housekeeper, or a guest is going to be on the property. The other dogs are a super fluffy Pom-a-Poo who usually comes with us and a small Blue Heeler. Both are basically just house dogs. We also have two semi-indoor cats. All the animals stay inside at night - preferably in your bedroom or on the bed:-) All the animals need lots of affection, feeding twice a day and the cats need the litter boxes cleaned at least once each day. Our one stringent rule is that the house must always be occupied at night.
Hopkins has wonderful beaches, great snorkeling and fishing and is only hours away. Placencia and the Cayes are far enough away that you would need to be gone 1-2 nights to make the trip worthwhile.
The gardener comes daily and the housekeeper comes on Fridays to clean.
Our area is very centrally located so many of Belize's attractions are close by including some of the most spectacular Mayan ruins (Cahal Pech, Xunantunich, Caracol, and Lamanai), the Belize Zoo, a butterfly breeding facility, a monkey sanctuary, the "Crystal Cave" (technically Actun Tunichil Muknal or ATM Cave), and more. There's zip lining, eco tours, cave tubing, etc. all close by.
We do have two vehicles but we're not sure whether or not they will be running although they're fine right now. Belize's roads are tough on vehicles!. If neither vehicle should be operational, then the local bus or shuttle bus is inexpensive and quite convenient since they stop right in front of our home.
There's also an apartment downstairs that we're hoping to have rented before we leave. If so, then that person can take care of the dogs and cats occasionally when you want to be gone for a brief overnight or two. We haven't purchased our tickets yet so there's some flexibility there with the start date and when we return. Ideally we'd like you to be here by about April 20th so we can get your oriented before we leave. We expect to return about July 10-15.
