We are nearing completion of our retirement home, located on family property on the west coast of Jamaica, about 6000 acres consisting of all family going back several generations. This is the real Jamaica with the real sense of "Irie". My wife Shanaga is the Matriarch of the area and there is deep respect and love for her in the village. Therefore, it is very important that the housesitter is someone who is respectful. The house is four stories, with 17 bedrooms. We have family living on the main floor, two brothers (one recovering from a stroke), two nieces, two grand nieces (2 year old babies), and a nephew. We have a care person that comes in every day to look after the care and physiotherapy for Shanaga's brother. However, they are not trained in therapy and although Shanaga is a surgical physiotherapist, it is difficult to establish and maintain a rehabilitation routine. Shanaga's brother is a proud 66 year old rastaman singer/songwriter and sometimes his pride gets in his way when it comes to doing some of the physio Shanaga has taught to the helper, and he is lazy when it comes to practicing his walking with the stand up walker we have for him. Ideally, we would love to have someone stay who has a medical, physio, or therapy background who is willing to help care for Ronnie for a couple of hours a day (help with some physio, senior type care duties).
We have workers on the house finishing off, room by room (plumbing, fixtures, carpentry, wiring, etc). Ideally looking for someone more long term (3 months+). For the right person, or preferably couple, who can help us, they will find a beautiful community open for them, where they will be welcomed as family, not just during the house sit but for life.
One Love, Shanaga and Rob
