Short notice as have just been let down by house sitters so we are looking for someone for 2 months, mid-June to mid-August.
Rurally located with great hiking and serenity ..
As a 2 month sit, I would appreciate if you could give me a lift to / from Buxton at start / end to catch airport bus instead of leaving car a airport for so long. I'll pay for the fuel.
House is on River Dane in beautiful Peak District with walks directly from house. Access on single track roads. Nearest shop 2 mile hike to Flash if without car. Flash is a cluster of weather-worn buildings which sits on the side of Oliver Hill at a height of over 1500 feet above sea level - it is the highest village in England. There is an attractive church which was founded in 1744, although the present building was built in There are 2 pubs.
Wildboarclough is also only 2 miles away. It's claim to fame is as the place where the last wild boar in England was killed, allegedly. The village is now a quiet backwater in the upper reaches of Clough Brook, sandwiched between the uplands of the Macclesfield forest to the west and Danebower to east. It is a popular area with visitors at weekends. The large house of Crag Hall is the country seat of Lord Derby and there was once a carpet mill which used Clough Brook to power its machinery. The mill was largely demolished but the administration block remains, a fine building which once had the strange distinction of being the largest sub-post office in England.
Buxton, Macclesfield, Leek all within 10 miles, Congleton 12 miles. Buxton Opera House is 15 mins. away and many historic houses ( Chatsworth, Haddon, Haddon, Arley, Capesthorne, Tatton, Little Morton Hall to name a few ) within a 30 mile radius.
Must be fit and an outdoors type and appreciate the lovely hikes directly from the house.
Limited wifi to s & internet browsing as on satellite broadband and no mobile at the house ( nearby hotspots) but Flash Bar stores has a cafe with all these facilities. Free landline calls after 7pm and weekends.
We have 2 cats, hens and ducks which need feeding morning and evening but otherwise the day is your own.
