We are in need of a reliable and hardy house- and pet-sitter (couples welcome) for October—April/May in southern Vermont, while we are traveling.
We have a dog and two cats. The dog does NOT get along with other dogs, so you may NOT bring your own pet. She is very good with humans. The cats do not go outside, so you'll need to be willing to change litter boxes.
The house is huge and old, and it is heated with a wood-burning furnace, which requires filling 1-2 times a day (outside). We'll provide the firewood. It will definitely snow, and you will need to clear the driveway (snow-blower provided). Your only expenses will be electricity and gas (for cook-stove), which are minimal.
The payoff is free rent, lots of solitude, a gorgeous view, time to write or make art or read or whatever, cross-country skiing right out the door, and animal companionship.
The village of Putney is within five minutes, and has cafes, a coop, and general store. Brattleboro is about 15 minutes and has lots of restaurants, grocery stores, movie theater, and galleries. Downhill skiing is a half-hour away. Car loan is possible. Interview and references required.
