We plan to travel for a month this summer and are looking for a house sitter to enjoy our house, cut the grass and look after our cat Patch.
Our house enjoys a beautiful wooded setting in the countryside just south of Trollhättan in the west of Sweden. The property lies a couple of hundred metres from a river and a conservation area were you can enjoy peaceful walks with only the beavers, buzzards, deer and elk for company.
The house itself is a light and cozy cottage with everything needed for a comfortable life: including wifi, netflix, electric heating, wood-burning stoves, dishwasher, washing machine etc. The house is easy to look after. The garden is about half an acre but the lawn occupies only a third of that at most. We have a newly serviced self-propelled walk-behind mower that makes cutting the grass straightforward. Once the grass is cut, it's time to sit the shade of the huge apple tree and listen to the birds with a cold drink in your hand.
We have two children aged three and five so the house is child-friendly with plenty of toys both indoors and out including trampoline, swings, wendy-house and sandpit.
Despite the rural location, the local town is only 10km away and easily accesible by car, bicycle or bus. Facilities in the riverside town include: pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops as well as a cinema (films are subtitled not dubbed), a library and bookshops (with a range of books in English).
Sweden's second city, Gothenburg, is only half an hour away on the train or just under an hour by car. The train service is fantastic with frequent departures throughout the day and makes popping to the big town a breeze. Gothenburg has everything you would expect from a major city without being overwhelming in size.
Summer in Sweden means outdoor swimming. Options abound, the local swimming lake is ten minutes drive away and the seaside at Ljungskile only half an hour. Here you can enjoy the sandy beach and rugged coast from the deck of the Mussel bar. This part of the Swedish coast is a world-famous natural beauty spot that is very popular in the summer with sailors, rock-climbers and those who enjoy simply sitting in the sun and soaking in the atmosphere. The bronze age rock art at Tanum adds a UNESCO worls heritage site to the list of attractions.
Patch is easy going and relishes company and affection. She is fed twice a day and has a cat-flap so you don't have to worry about her getting in or out. Just food, water, cuddles and the litter-box!
We have great neighbours, friends and family in the area who will be on stand-by to help out should you need assistance or support of any kind.
