Thank you for viewing our profile.
We are looking for someone to firmly commit to our dates: 14th November to 3-4th December and also mid Jan to mid Feb - these dates are not fixed as I have yet to book our flights.
We live in a gated cooperative community in Breezy Point. NY – see zip code on google maps – located on the western end of the Rockaway peninsula. It is a very small private community ‘town’ with friendly people and only 2837 houses and one main road! As a cooperative, we have our own ‘public safety’ force, mostly retired police and firefighters and so is a very safe environment. We are at a distance from public transport, so a vehicle is an advantage for convenience. We do have a local bus to take you to either the NYC Ferry shuttle or the NYC public bus and subway – more about that below.
We have 3 well trained adult house cats to be fed twice a day, a fishpond, Likely closed up in November and house plants to be watered once a week. We have a very beautiful and comfortable home; with radiant heat (underfloor heating) with a wonderful open plan upstairs and a spa bathroom.
We also have two decks, a very beautiful and restful patio/garden with pond to enjoy if the beach is not on the plan of the day and the weather is warm enough! Our back deck is enclosed with a vinyl curtain that keeps out the wind and maintains sun’s heat making it a pleasant place lounge with a book.
We are about a minute’s walk away from the bay beach, facing NYC, and 10-minute walk to the Ocean beach. Being on the east coast we are on the primary flyway for migrating birds, many of which visit our garden in the fall and spring. Sea birds, songbirds, and raptors are common. There are Snowy Owls, Ospreys and Peregrines often seen on the beach, with surfing and miles of pristine beach for long bracing walks in any weather. We have a small shopping mall with a bar/restaurant, cafe bank, hardware store, grocery store, booze shop, and pharmacy all 5 mins walk from our home. s://en.wikipedia /wiki/Breezy_Point,_Queens
The area is very quiet, as is our house. The commute to center city can be made by car, bus, subway, or ferry. Cars face bridge tolls, traffic and fuel cost while the public transport is $2.75 one way, initially by resident bus, then free bus to the ferry or public bus to the subway.
We are used to house sitters and so have prepared comprehensive 'aide memoire' guides - for feeding the cats, using the washing machine, turning on the TV, (Netflix, Amazon, Apple TV), watering the plants, feeding the fish and care of the pond. This is a non-smoking home.
We will meet and connect with you by video conference before you arrive, have a day with you and show you 'the ropes' of the house and then connect again when we return. We expect you not to stay away overnight during your time here; day trips, great, but please be back at a reasonable time to feed the cats. We also expect you to respect our home and not bring guests to the house without consulting with us first.
A car is a plus as ours is not available.
Please look on google maps so you have an idea of our area and will meet you on zoom to show you our lovely home and answer any questions you may have.
Our dates are: 14th Nov - 3 dec, also Mid-Jan - to mid-Feb 2025
Looking forward to hearing from you
Pauleen
