We live in a cooperative community in a place called Breezy Point. NY – see zip code on google maps – and are located on the western end of the Rockaway peninsula, between Rockaway Inlet and Jamaica Bay on the landward side, and the Atlantic Ocean. It is a very small private community ‘town’ with friendly people and only 2830 houses and one main road! As a cooperative, we have our own ‘public safety’ force, mostly retired police and so is a very safe environment.
We have 2 house cats to be fed twice a day, both well trained, a fish pond fed once a day and some pots of orchids and house plants to be watered once a week. We have a very beautiful and comfortable home; with radiant heat (underfloor heating) with a wonderful open plan upstairs and a luxury spa bathroom.
We also have a very beautiful and restful garden with pond ato enjoy if the beach is not on the plan of the day and the weather is warm enough!
We are about a minute’s walk away from the bay, literally out the door, turn right and walk to the beach. Being on the east coast we are on the flyway for many migrating birds, many of whom visit our garden. There are Snowy Owls and Peregrines often seen on the beach. Lifeguards protect a number of areas on the beach with safe waters for swimming and water sports in the summer and bracing walks in the winter. It is 10 mins walk to the ocean with surfing and miles of pristine beach. We have restaurants, a bar, a cafe and a little shopping mall with a bank, hardware store, grocery store, booze shop, and pharmacy – that is about 5 mins walk away.
The area is very quiet with little traffic noise so you can have a good night’s sleep without being disturbed.
We are within easy reach of the city, although a longish commute, by ferry and subway with transport to both – more on that if you are interested.
We are used to house sitters and so have pre-prepared comprehensive 'aide memoire' guides - for feeding the cats, using the washing machine, turning on the TV, (Netflix and Amazon), watering the orchids, feeding the fish and care of the pond.
We ask that you to arrive a couple of days before we depart so we can meet and connect with you and show you 'the ropes' of the house. We expect you not to stay away overnight during your time here; day trips, great, but please be back at a reasonable time to feed the cats.
this is a non-smoking home.
I can send photos for you to look at so you have an idea of our area.
