Hello! We're looking for a kind, fit person/couple to take care of our 2 smallish dogs and 3 cats for 2 weeks. You are welcome to stay a few days longer if needed, to fit in with travel plans!
Our furry family is a mixed bag of personalities; a bit quirky, but all gentle. They're fairly easy! We have been told our home is both beautiful and comfortable. We feel very lucky to live in the centre of a tiny village about half an hour south of Bergerac, in the heart of the Lot et Garonne countryside.
Our stone-bult house dates from the mid 1800's, and in its time has been (deep breath); the mairie, an hotel, a cafe, a restaurant, a garage, a dance hall, and a cinema! One of our neighbours was born in "your" room, and another recalls coming to dances here up until 1968! Now, it is a lovingly renovated centrally heated 4 bedroomed family home, with a proper cosy country kitchen and a big comfy living room. There's a small garden with a pool, open from April to September.
There's plenty of space to pursue all sorts of hobbies or to work from home, with a bright airy dining room/hobby room and wifi of course. We have a couple of TVs, both have British tv and Netflix. There are also large eclectic collections of DVDs, CDs and books, and an armoire full of games and crafts to entertain you! There's even a petanque court just across the road, and we've 2 sets of boules for you to use.
The surrounding area, with its gently rolling countryside, dotted with stone farmhouses, churches and hilltop villages, is honestly gorgeous. There's also plenty of nature and wildlife to enjoy on walks - deer, buzzards, hares, coypu and red squirrels among many others. On top of this, the French lifestyle is legendary! It's all here if you wish, gorgeous bastide villages, chateaux, markets, wine tasting, restaurants and cafe/bars.
You do need a car here - the nearest airport is Bergerac, 30 minutes away, with a choice of car rentals. The nearest basic shops, restaurants and bars are under 10 minutes drive away in a pretty medieval village. A wide range of supermarkets and other large shops can be found at about 20 minutes. Beautiful Bordeaux is an hour and a half away, and there's plenty to see and do locally, such as the cave paintings at Lascaux.
And so to The Furry Family. We have 2 gentle dogs; Cookie (10y ears) a rescued cross-breed who is quite quirky but very lovable, and Crumble (9 years) a handsome fox terrier who is bags of fun, and toy-mad! The dogs have 2 main walks, plus a late evening toilet break, totalling about 2 hours a day. They don't tend to use the garden as a loo, so routine is important! There are 3 cats; Ossy a huge shy tabby who lost his tail after an infected bite, Goo'chi a very handsome and loving Siamese cross, and Pistache our calico huntress. The cats are pretty independent, and live mainly outside with access to the garage. They enjoy coming in the house for an armchair snooze, food and cuddles during the day/evening.
I hope that's enough of a thumbnail sketch - if you'd like to know more, we'd be happy to answer any questions you may have. We look forward to hearing from you!
