We are looking for a couple to stay in our Quinta over the Christmas period to look after our 14 year old (very healthy) cat Rollo, and our little rescue dog Chessie, who is about 18 months old, whilst we are away visiting our grown-up children. Rollo has a cat flap and comes and goes as he pleases, he just needs feeding and brushing now and again. Chessie has a walk in the morning from the house, and then potters around wherever she wants in the summer as the doors are always open, and she never runs off. However in the winter she will need to be let out during the day as the doors will be closed. She hates the rain so has to be taken out then. A 5 minute evening walk round the quinta before bedtime ends the day. . They both love people and company, although Rollo is used to doing his own thing.
Quinta do Castanheiro was once a working farm and has been sympathetically restored by the previous owners. It is nestled on a hillside overlooking the Serra do Estrela National Park, and the Mountain of Col Corhino. The views are stunning and ever changing, depending on the time of year. We have a hectare of land which is mainly terraced. You do need to have some degree of fitness to live here and walk the dog, as it is quite hilly. It is definitely not suitable for those with limited mobility. There is a ski resort less than an hour away, and the river runs along the valley below. Although this is a very peaceful and quiet spot, we are only 10 minutes away from the town of Oliveira do Hospital which has everything you need, supermarkets, a hospital, bank, vets, etc. The larger towns of Coimbra and Viseu are less than an hour away by car.
We have two properties which are on but we will be closed for the winter months.
