House in natural tropical setting on 135 acres of farm, reforestation and rainforest.” Paradise” for the right people. An authentic old time Costa Rica experience possible for nature lovers.
Suits people interested in exploring nature, interacting with locals, practicing Spanish. Must be physically active and fit to enjoy this position mostly due to transportation considerations.(see below) Rural so somewhat isolated-
Farm is in beautiful, tiny Quizarrá. near San Isidro de El General. San Isidro de El General is located 3 hours from the airport in San Jose in the southwestern Pacific in the foothills of the Central mountain range of Costa Rica. Quizarrá is a few miles from San Isidro. It is a small town with almost no amenities but lots of friendly and helpful Costa Ricans. No local restaurants and this position is not suited for someone who wants to go to town more than once a week or so. Need to be able to be on your own- excellent for a couple or home schooling family though we have had single people who have really enjoyed it-- let's talk . Internet and wifi available. Very high speed internet not available.
It is 25 minutes from town by your car or taxi ($20) . We do not have a car to offer except for emergencies or occasional farm errand with manager. It is 2 km walk to the bus and an hour ride by bus into San Isidro.
Dominical nearest beach access. 3/4 of an hour by car from San Isidro.
Our longtime Costa Rican neighbors manage the farm taking care of the bills and the worker and getting the pet food etc. For a small fee they may be able to provide transportation to the Quizarrá bus stop 2 km away. We expect you to be a presence on the farm for security reasons, do daily hike with 3 outdoor dogs and feed them. Also to check on the free range horses daily so you can tell the manager if they are not around. Keeping up the small vegetable garden and giving attention the ornamental beds around the house appreciated. We have a reliable local woman who comes to do MAINTENANCE cleaning every 2 weeks. Keeping a house in the tropics requires special care so we do insist on this.
Nice house/cabin with books on huge farm with rainforest, biological corridor, a river you can jump into. Safe, great for a family or individuals. Main house will be available for this sit as of this time.
Birdwatchers paradise. Lots of exciting nature- including insects and spiders like all tropical places. Biodiversity hotspot. Near to Los Cusingos famous bird Reserve.
Neighboring manager family is splendid resource
and friendly, supportive. Have to be willing to cooperate with manager but be independent. Some Spanish an asset.
Comfortable house with gorgeous surroundings and ideal climate. Offering house and safe water, electric, and internet. We also have a cabin with internet that some might prefer. If you are on a longer term sit we may ask you to move down to the cabin while the owners come.
Transportation is challenging by some standards as there is limited bus service and the bus leaves from 2 km away- must be fit and active unless plan to have own vehicle. Can usually get a ride to the bus for $3. The $20 taxi fare is an option for those who want to do a big weekly shop in interesting San Isidro. There is a weekly market with all the fruits, vegetables etc
Costa Rica dry season Dec-May -weather hotter but we don't have much humidity. Beautiful "green" season is May-Dec when the mornings are sunny and warm and expect daily afternoon rain mostly from 1:00-3:00. Nights are comfortably cool.
At this time of the year we would offer the sitter the main house. Easy pet feeding and three friendly dogs will accompany you on your daily hikes and explorations . Just check on the horses
Keep the house clean and be able to do minor repairs- interest in maintaining small organic vegetable patch an asset. General gardening skills a plus. Support from longtime Costa Rican farm overseer- some Spanish language skills would help. They can provide backup if needed.
