What am I looking for in a house sitter? *
FLUENT IN SPANISH
We are Welsh octogenarians and have had the joy of 21 years in our Cortijo. Now in our twilight years we are spending time back in Wales near family and friends. Consequently we have a number of self catering cottages and apartments that we developed over the years to assist the local economy of our wonderful village of Lubrin and are looking for a couple who are keen gardeners and have possible hosting experience. Also a basic understanding of plumbing and electrics.
Mostly keeping the large garden tidy which mostly involves falling leaves and dead heading. All the swimming pools are closed. Occasionally preparing a cottage or apartment for a possible booking. All accommodations are 7 nights minimum self catering so very little to do once guests has moved in.
What are the good features of my property and location? *
Located in the very Spanish village of Lubrin in Almeria, 2000ft up in the Sierra de los Filabres and just 45 minutes from Mojacar on the Costa del Almeria. The Farmhouse is set on a hilltop and surrounded by an 2 acres of terraced lawns and Olive, Almond and Pomegranate trees and is a short 5 minute walk to the very authentic small village which has all the amenities and most of all warm and friendly villagers
If you enjoy walking then there are wonderful walks in the hills and valleys straight out of the main entrance. kathy
If you are studying Spanish then Lubrin Pueblo is the perfect place to “practicar su español”.
If over 23 then use of our car to do occasional local day trips
What do potential house sitters need to consider before applying for this assignment? *
These are testimonials that I've received from a few past house sitters:
Beautiful Spanish Homestead
John and Mair are wonderful, warm and interesting people. We spent a winter sit at their property in Lubrin, Spain and thoroughly enjoyed the gardens, picking olives, and taking care of the occasional guest who rented the cottages. John has many walking trails about the property which should be enjoyed by visitors. Our weekly jaunts to various towns, markets and the ocean allowed us to see much of the surrounding areas, learn the history and generally be a part of their culture. This was one of our favorite house sits!

Wonderful House sit in Lubrin Spain
Igor and I feel so blessed to have spent time in Lubrin, Spain taking care of John and Maria's beautiful beloved cortijo 'Fuente Arriba'. Even though we were minding the main house, kitty Sammie and 5 little casitas that were frequently filled with new and returning guests, It was such a special time for us that it truly did not even feel like work! The effort we put into maintaining the grounds, the pool and change over of guests were minimized by the extent of graciousness that we felt from the villagers and the authenticity of the area. In the 5 months we were there we were heartily welcomed into the small community, which in turn, gave us confidence in knowing we would be supported if anything was needed. John has many connections with shop keepers, electricians, mechanics, doctors, bakers, welders you name it...they were all ready to lend a hand when called upon. John was always available via or and provided us with detailed notes that made the transition there smooth and easy. We would recommend this home sit to anyone who enjoys nature, embraces new cultures and who's ready to make magical life changing memories. We adore Lubrin and John and Maria and look forward to returning just as soon as we can!! All the best, Bonnie and Igor
