Our small house is located just outside the historic town of Hillsborough, North Carolina. A tranquil retreat on an 80 acre ranch. The ranch, home to a small herd of cattle with some young calves, three minature donkeys and chickens. There are several ponds, woods and trails to be enjoyed. Hillsborough, founded in 1754, was the first capital of North Carolina. The charming historic district is fun to explore with a variety of restaurants and shops. The Eno River walk is part of the Sea-to-Mountains trail and there are numerous historic places and hikes to explore. Centrally located, the "Research Triangle" area of Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh is within easy distance of Hillsborough. Charlotte, Ashville, the mountains and the beautiful beaches are just a few hours drive. HOUSE:
Our comfortable home is all on the same level: The bathroom has a large walk-in shower. The bedroom has a queen bed and the living room and kitchen are open-plan with access to a comfortable porch, which is a great place to enjoy your coffee in the morning while watching the many birds that visit our feeders. The Hummingbirds may still be here in early October which is a great time to be here. No humidity and the days are still warm and comfortable and the nights great for sleeping. The house has AC and heat.
OUR TWO DOGS:
Trini and Lucki are both rescue dogs from our cruising days. Trini we found at the beach in Trinidad. He had been hit by a car sometime before we found him and had managed to survive the accident with a broken pelvis and dislocated hip. The injuries were too old for any intervention, but despite all he manages to run with the best of them and is a whiz at chasing squirrels. He loves to hang out with you and snuggle up. Lucki we found as a tiny puppy on the streets of Havana, Cuba. He is now a spirited three year old, super smart but with a loving and sweet disposition. He also likes to cuddle. There are three other dogs - one is a senior daschound -on the property and Trini and Lucki enjoy playing with the two younger pups every day. All four will greet you in the morning expecting their daily treat. Our dogs are fed morning and evening. They are allowed to run free on the ranch, but love to go anywhere in the car and walk well on leashes. They can be left inside for up to 4 -5 hours. No medications. The outside and inside plants will need watering as necessary - not many. The bird bath will need daily cleaning and filling and the feeders replenished and kept clean. Other than that, there is nothing else to do except keep the pups happy, care for the inside of the house and enjoy the tranquil setting.
We are a senior couple recently retired from cruising on our sail boat for many years. Our passion has always been to sail and to travel but we have slowed our pace a little now to enjoy a more tranquil life in the country. We love living in the country and enjoy our quiet retreat. We rent our home. The owners and their son and daughter in law also live on the ranch. We need someone to care for our home and our pups while we fly to Texas for a family wedding.
