Welcome to Good Acres
Enjoy Christmas in a peaceful country farmhouse with Barley the curious cat!
Located in stunning Southern Alberta, 10 minutes from Hwy 2 east of Nanton. 1 hr south of Calgary. 30 minutes to the Rocky Mountains. 2 hrs to Banff /Canmore.
SETTING: Older, artsy, farmhouse with 4 cozy bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and all the basic amenities. Each room has unique colouring with a rustic charm. No siri, no smart fridge, zero Martha Stuart vibes, this place is analog but has stacks of charm. Very clean home, on a small acerage with a big kitchen, large deck and covered porch, complete with rocking chairs. W.O. Mitchell skies never disappoint, endless prairie surrounds. NO TV here, but excellent wifi to stream youre faves & heaps of books and board games. It feels like the middle of nowhere but is less than 10 minutes to town. Best of both worlds.
DUTIES: Do you speak cat?
BARLEY the playful cat who likes to get out daily to hunt and wander is your charge. You get to work the door for her and keep her food and water topped up. She is curious and talkative, pets are ok but she will let you know when she's had enough. She loves to interact, esp with string! She is the Boss here and is quite territorial; sadly this means no other pet visitors.
There is a feral cat who came with the farm, Mr. Biggles, who is rarely spotted. He has his own heated, outside shelter but will require his water and food topped up every few days.
In this season no garden to water, maybe inside plants will need a drink.
ATTRACTIONS: You're in Cowboy Country now, with Historic Bar U Ranch, local rodeos and Cowboy Trail all nearby. UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Writing on Stone and Buffalo Head Smashed In are close. The Rocky Mountians are home to world class fishing and skiiing. Banff National Park and Canmore are stunners and only 2 hrs away. In Nanton, the Bomber Command Centre - a internationally known Flight Museum has a running Lancaster Bomber and many exhibits. Coutts Centre for Western Heritage is 5 minutes from here. Less than an hour drive to Calgary to access international airport and all the city stuff.
COUNTRY LIFE:
Someone who knows how rural living goes would be preferred. ie; youre not afraid of the dark ( we have stars here!) Country living means - no municipal services taking care of things for you, ie; no one comes to collect your rubbish or recycling. If it snows, no one comes to clear it for you. ( frankly we dont get much snow here.) You're on excellent well water, so don't waste it, on a septic, so don't clog it. Etc...
I'm on pavement all the way, 10 minutes to historic town of Nanton with full amenities, so if you need a cafe or amusement or company, it's close at hand.
Bring your family for a different type of holiday. Or get away from it all by yourself for a bit of solitude and respite.
