A caretaker couple is needed immediately for the season at the International Hostel at Tibbetts Point Lighthouse. The current manager had to leave the area due to employment.
This is a beautiful suburban area at the entry to the Thousand Island area of New York. The lighthouse is working and operated by the Coast Guard. There are two historic caretaker homes that are used for a hostel and the managers residence. The hostel sleeps 26.
You would stay in one home that also has 6 hostel beds that are used by guests during busy times The location and community is wonderful but there is a lot of time and work involved so a couple is really needed so that there is always someone in the morning and evening to attend to guests - sorry to all the single housesitters out there.
The property is on three acres that you would be responsible to mow. Cleaning both properties (which is not too bad as hostel guests are good about keeping things clean), washing sheets, picking up supplies, checking in guests, etc. Having handyman skills is a plus.
It is great meeting guests from all over the world, watching the huge laker ships going by and enjoying the views and sunsets. It is more than peaceful.
The house you would be staying in is historic. Bathrooms and bedrooms are on the second level so you will need to climb stairs. There is no central heating and cooling, the property is closed in the winter. However, the lake breeze is wonderful and we have space heaters that we hardly use. For the right couple, this could be an ongoing position.
