Strawbale house on 11 acres near the town of Lancefield, about 70ks north west of Melbourne.

We've spent the last few years building and almost completing our little strawbale house.

The house has two bedrooms, one bathroom and a large open north facing living area witha wood heater. Granite/timber kitchen with an induction cook top and a Thermomix. We kind of like it.

We've got two active and bouncy Boxer dogs that need someone to look after them while we galavant around the United States.

Along with the two dogs, are four cats and four horses.

The dogs, Vinnie and Vera need lots of attention and a feed now and again plus a run around the paddocks every day. Our cats will let you know when they would like a chin/belly rub. They are mostly content with mooching around the house and keeping the sofas warm. The horses will have their hay rounds set up so there will be minimal if any feeding out. The horses are partial to the occasional carrot.

There's not much else to do except enjoy.

Here's a bit of spiel on Lancefield.

Lancefield is a small rural town in the geographic centre of Victoria, Australia – 70 kilometres north of Melbourne. It was first settled in 1837, with the township of Lancefield founded in the 1850's. Today, Lancefield is a delightful mix of old and new. Lancefield is a peaceful town whose streetscape features a wide median strip, historic buildings, established gardens and statuesque trees.

There are approximately 1,200 people in the township of Lancefield and its surrounding districts. It is a rural community, with sheep/cattle grazing and vineyard perations and wine production (sparkling wines, chardonnay and pinot noir).

Our climate is hot and dry in the summer, with temperatures sometimes exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. Winters are cold and wet, although it rarely snows in Lancefield.

October is a nice time of year here if a little chilly.

Activities and attractions:

Explore Hanging Rock, Mount Macedon or take a scenic drive through the picturesque, boulder- strewn hills surrounding the township

Shop for antiques at the Macedonia Antique Centre, a heritage building with three storeys of antiques and art from the UK, Europe, Australia and the USA

Meet the winemaker and taste at the cellar door of numerous wineries in the area.
