We are a young retired couple, who both served in the Canadian Armed Forces for almost 25 years and with our children grown we are now enjoying being able to travel extensively.
We have been house sitting around the world since 2013, after many years of returning to a home base we finally sold our home in Victoria, Canada in 2018, (which we always had listed on a house sitting platform while we travelled), and have been nomadic since.
We are animal lovers who have always had pets, and enjoyed their company. Travelling makes having our own pets difficult so we would love to look after yours.
We are in excellent health, non smokers, and basically homebodies who prefer our evenings in.
Our lifestyle is very active, scuba diving, sailing (we owned a racing sailboat), hiking, and biking. Martin is trilingual, speaking English, French, and German and Louise is working on becoming fluent in Spanish. We are extremely trustworthy, dependable, honest, friendly, tidy, and very much enjoy being around animals.
We have always taken every opportunity to travel, even when our children were very small.
Now that we are free to do so often we prefer to settle in and get to know a place as opposed to travelling through as a tourist, and house sitting provides this. A feeling of belonging to a community, getting to know some fabulous people, learning by immersing ourselves in other languages, enjoying lovely settings, and great companionship with your pets.
Our pets have always been family members and a priority for us, as is taking very good care of our own home, which we enjoy sharing with others, and it would be lovely to sit for others who feel the same way.
In the past 32 years of marriage we have renovated on our own 4 homes from top to bottom, including the landscaping. This has given us the skill sets needed to deal with most common household issues as they arise.
We are of course very diligent when it comes to duties and will follow your instructions to the letter. We enjoy the company of all animals and have in the past taken care of cats, dogs, rabbits, fish and horses.
Velcro our last cat was with us for 17 years and required twice daily needles for 7 years and extensive care in the last few months, which we happily provided, so we are comfortable providing additional medical care to elderly pets. We are both comfortable driving a wide assortment of vehicles including motorcycles, ATVs, manual transmissions etc, and will arrive with international licences.
Since 2013 we have been sitting around the world, in Thailand, Malaysia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Anguilla, Canada, the United States, Ireland, UEA, Spain, and Indonesia, which have provided us with great references.
We are now available for the month of June in British Columbia Canada, and anytime after August we are available anywhere:-)
